Last week, we had a wonderful Read Across America week. As a part of the celebration, Bulldogs voted for their favorite Dr Seuss book. The 3rd prize GoPro How the Grinch Stole Christmas. 2nd Place goes to The Cat in the Hat. And our Grand Prize goes to(drumroll please) Green Eggs and Ham!

The Memphis Grizzlies Read to Achieve Program (RTA) is in its 21st year and is an excellent way to encourage students to read and develop a love for reading. The Grizzlies, along with the support of sponsors International Paper and KPMG, are excited to provide this program for the students in the Greater Memphis area and beyond. The program consists of reading six books in six weeks and completing the activity for each week.
• Open to elementary school students grades 3-5 only
• Students read a minimum of six books in six weeks *Books should be at or above reading level of each student and must align with the book theme of the week:
o Week 1: Holiday Book - Any book that is about or has a story about the holiday season.
o Week 2: MLK Book - Any book about Martin Luther King Jr and his journey to end racism during the Civil Rights Movement.
o Week 3: Geography/Global Book - Any book about a specific geographical place or a story about a geographical place.
o Week 4: Sports Book - Any book about sports or a story about a sport.
o Week 5: Don't Judge a Book by its Cover - Choose a book based on only the look of the cover that is at or above your grade level
o Week 6: Free Choice Book - Any book at or above your grade level that you have not read before.
• Upon reading a book each week, there will be an interactive activity sheet for the student to complete:
o Week 1: Game Board - Create a fun board game about your book using the provided template.
o Week 2: Letter to MLK - Write a letter to MLK about what you learned from him and what you can do to continue his legacy.
o Week 3: Magazine Ad - Create a magazine ad telling people why they should visit the place you read about.
o Week 4: Custom Jersey - Design a custom jersey about the sport you read. You can create this on a blank T-Shirt or design it on paper.
o Week 5: Book Cover - Design a new book cover for the book you read.
o Week 6: Sandwich Book Report - Create and design a sandwich book report using the provided template.
• The challenge will run from January 24, 2022 until March 4, 2022
• Students will receive a bookmark to log the titles of the books they read

SCS returns to 100% in-person learning; first time since March 2020 With remote learning no longer an option for SCS, district leaders said safety and the well-being of students is the top priority
We had a special visit from the Memphis Grizzlies and they were very good to our Bulldogs!
2021 Grizzlies Bruce Elementary Teacher Donation The Grizzlies dropped off 650 teacher kits, filled with school supplies for the year. The kits were prepared by Grizzlies players, coaches and employees.
We Bruce Elementary Bulldogs had a great time at our Dress Down and Movie Attendance Day! Great Job, Bulldogs.
One omission as a special guest today at the press conference was former principal at Bruce Elementary and also the man that was instrumental in the development of the Bruce 3 and the murals that are present on the walls of Bruce Elementary, Dr Archie Moss.
