As we celebrated Dr. Seuss birthday today, I was honored to join Houston Texans players, Houston Texans Cheerleaders, and Houston Independent School District’s Suoerintendent House as we all took part in Literacy Now’s .

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Fox in Socks to Bruce Elementary School’s second graders.

On Oct. 3, 1961, our community came together to desegregate the Memphis City public school system through the Memphis 13.

Today, 60 years later at Bruce Elementary School, we celebrate their profound strength & courage as we honor the impact they've made on our community.

Special guests at today's event include Dwania Kyles, a member of the Memphis 13 & Civil Rights Advocate; Debra Northcross, Executive Director at SAEOPP; Rev. Dr. LaSimba Gray, Pastor Emeritus of New Sardis Baptist Church & Historical Consultant for City of Memphis; Daniel Kiel, Director of The Memphis 13 Documentary; SCS Board members Michelle R. McKissack and Athlea Greene; and SCS Superintendent Dr. Joris M. Ray.
We are nothing without community, and that is why it is so important for Curb Market to give back whenever we can. Thanks to the incredible generosity of Redeemer Memphis, we have been able to bring lunch to half a dozen neighborhood schools' staff, and today we had the honor to feed the wonderful staff at Bruce Elementary School. Go Bulldogs!

Crosstown Concourse
This morning we surprised some very deserving Bruce Elementary School teachers with teacher kits for Grizz Goes Back to School! These kits included different supplies such as PPE, paper, and more.✏️

There were so many important takeaways from our cityCURRENT virtual panel discussion last week, “A BIG Return on Principal Investments,” which focused on how collaboration is helping unlock the power of leadership to transform schools in Memphis and Shelby County and across our nation.

This event followed the release of a new report from The Wallace Foundation, titled “How Principals Affect Students and Schools." The researchers conclude: “It is difficult to envision an investment with a higher ceiling on its potential return than a successful effort to improve principal leadership.”

It is with a heavy heart that we share that we lost our beloved Pre-K teacher, Laura Freeman. She touched the lives of many of our students and families and will be greatly missed. A message was sent through the school's phone system from Principal Foster. However, in case you did not receive it, we wanted to post it, as well.

As arrangements are being made, we will post any updates with the family's permission. We thank all of you who have already reached out to school to offer condolences. Please keep her family, loved ones, and the school in your thoughts and prayers.

05/05/2022

Parents,
We are looking for about 134 books that haven't returned home. Could you please help? Thanks so much!

04/25/2022

Parents,

AS we approach the end of the school year, I am asking for your help. Part of my job as Librarian is to do an inventory of the books in our collection. I need all books to be returned by May 6. Please, if you are able, help our scholars find and return their Library books. If you are not sure about whether or not your scholar has a book out, you may contact his/her teacher or me at school or by email at [email protected]. If books are not returned, Report cards CAN be held and registration delayed. Thanks for all you do!
