Ramadan or Ramazan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community.

Although Muslims fast during other times of the year, Ramadan is the only time when fasting is obligatory during the entire month for every able Muslim.

There are a number of other greetings, which can be said to those observing Ramadan, some greetings to wish someone an easy fast are:

Bring out your green! St. Patrick’s Day—observed every 17th of March—is packed with parades, good luck charms, oversized hats, and all things green. The event started as a religious holiday, but over time it’s become a celebration of Irish culture.

Celebrations generally involve public parades and festivals, ceilidh, and the wearing of green attire or shamrocks.

Here are some fun facts you can share with your little one on this day:
It is believed that Saint Patrick chased the snakes into the sea and banished them all from Ireland.
The shamrock is a symbol of Ireland.
The Chicago River is turned green every year to celebrate!

Every year on 8th of March, International Women’s Day is celebrated around the world!

But why – you might ask – do we have a day, especially for women? Well, it’s fair to say that throughout history, women haven’t received the fairest treatment.

Women haven’t always been able to work, vote, or been given the same rights as men.

Since the early 1900s, women around the world have celebrated International Women’s Day, campaigning for equal rights and shining a spotlight on brilliant women across the globe.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a 40-day fasting period observed by Christians. Ash Wednesday comes 46 days before Easter Sunday .

Happy Valentine's Day! 💝

Candies, flowers, heart-shaped notes—what’s not to love about Valentine’s Day? This sweet celebration, which happens every year February the 14th, is all about love. 🥰

The holiday we know today got its name from a man named Valentine. While a few different stories are told about what he did to inspire the holiday, many people believe he’s celebrated for his role as a Roman priest who helped couples secretly get married.

As the story goes, Emperor Claudius II of Rome—who reigned from the year 268 A.D. to 270 A.D.—banned marriage because he thought unmarried men made better soldiers. Valentine thought this was unfair and decided to break the rules and perform marriages anyway. He kept the ceremonies quiet, but he was eventually caught and later sentenced on February 14 of the year 270 for disobeying the emperor. Right before his punishment, Valentine supposedly wrote the first-ever “valentine” to the woman he was in love with.

Later, in the 5th century, Pope Gelasius I declared the day of his death as St. Valentine’s Day.

Every February, we celebrate the achievements and history of African-Americans as part of Black History Month.

It honors all Black people from all periods of U.S. history, from the enslaved people first brought over from Africa in the early 17th century to African- Americans living in the United States today.

Among the notable figures often spotlighted during Black History Month are
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who fought for equal rights for Blacks during the 1950s and ’60s; Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American justice appointed to the United States Supreme Court in 1967; Mae Jemison, who became the first female African-American astronaut to travel to space in 1992; and Barack Obama, who was elected the first-ever African-American president of the United States in 2008.

This year's theme of Black History Month is "Black Resistance".

Black Resistance can take many forms, including seeking knowledge about our histories (both during and post-slavery and genocide as well as pre-slavery and genocide), partaking in the arts, driving political action, challenging racist medical practices, supporting Black authors and entrepreneurs, and even taking up space by honoring and making visible our histories, communities and cultures through celebrations.

Let's enhance our recognition skills!

Using an old egg carton and colored lollypop sticks, your child can sort, arrange and improve their color recognition skills.

They have to match the egg carton to the correct colored stick and put the stick into the hole. Once all the sticks are matched up they have completed the puzzle/game.

This activity helps your child to practice:
- Colors

-Hand-eye coordination
-Focus and concentration
-Fine motor skills.

Most of us heard about the Tooth Fairy, but what do we know about her? 🧚‍♀️🦷

The Tooth Fairy lives in a big white castle with towers and even a sparkly moat! Every tooth she collects goes into the creation of her house… except teeth with cavities or dark spots. Since these teeth are very special, the tooth fairy grinds them into fairy dust that she uses to power her travels to earth and her magic wand. 🪄

Since she is very small and very quiet, she can easily float through closed windows and even walls with her magical powers. If you start to wake up when the tooth fairy replaces your tooth with money, she will put you back to sleep with a sprinkle of fairy dust. ✨

Sometimes, the tooth fairy doesn’t leave money at all! Since healthy teeth are very important to her, she will sometimes give you a new toothbrush, some tasty toothpaste, or even a special coupon for a trip to the park, a movie with mom and dad, or another one of your favorite activities.

Lots of babies and toddlers like to post and drop objects. Why not turn an empty tin/container into a reusable shape sorting activity for your little one.

Posting refers to the action of placing an object inside a container by passing it through a slot or opening.

Posting activities foster dexterity and hand-eye coordination as well as the ability to voluntarily release an object.

This activity will provide hours of fun for your little one!

Today is National Relaxation Day, so don't forget to take care of yourself! 🥰

It's easy to get lost in a daily routine, but let's not forget that without first taking care of ourselves, we won't be able to care for others!

Taking a moment out of our day to think, "What have I done today just for myself?" is crucial for our well-being.

Fine motor skills refer to the coordination between your child's small muscles, like those in their hands, wrists, and fingers in coordination with their eyes. Fine motor skills involve the small muscles of the body that enable such functions as writing, grasping small objects, and fastening clothing.
