Korbin has made the call and tomorrow, January 10, will be a "snow day" and campus will be closed. Stay warm!

❄️⛄️🥶🌨️

Korbin has the honor of being head of school for the day and calling this year's first snow day due to an auction item his family bid on and won at last spring's annual Auction and Gala. Experiences like these will be available for bidding at this year's auction on Saturday, February 22.

We are starting the new year with 4th-grade learning to set S.M.A.R.T. goals! The S.M.A.R.T. process helps students create clear, measurable, and achievable goals. School Counselor Mrs. Barker met with students this week to explain the goal-setting process using the following tactics.

Specific: Be clear about what you want to achieve.
Measurable: Make sure you can track your progress.
Achievable: Pick a goal you can realistically reach.
Relevant: How will this goal help you?
Time-Bound: Set a deadline to achieve your goal.

We look forward to a successful second semester continuing to set and achieve our goals for 2025!

Did you know that A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens was set in England during the Industrial Revolution?

At Woodland, our 1st and 2nd grade students are traveling into the rich Christmas traditions of different countries! From learning fun facts and tasting holiday treats, to creating traditional ornaments, exploring global locations on the map and even attending a performance of A Christmas Carol at Theater Memphis. It is a magical way to discover how values like kindness, generosity, and family are celebrated around the globe!

It's Teacher Feature Friday and we are sharing more about one of our marvelous second-grade teachers Amelia Cowan!

Amelia graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with an Undergraduate Degree in Sociology and Education and a Master's in Elementary Education.

She loves to travel and make memories with her family. Amelia also loves to bake and sew and brings those passions into the classroom through the "penguin project" and countless lessons with food.

Amelia joined the Woodland community as a 5th-grade teacher in 2009 and is in her 13th year teaching 2nd grade. Before coming to Woodland, she taught 1st grade for five years.

Mrs. Cowan's creativity and passion create a dynamic learning environment for her students!

One of the many benefits of Woodland as a smaller school community is the opportunity for students to build connections across all ages.

The friendships formed through our 1st and 8th grade buddy program help foster collaboration, mentorship, and a deep sense of community.

Our students have the chance to support and learn from one another while building relationships that last a lifetime. We are proud to be a place where all ages come together to grow and thrive!

“By starting each day with physical activity not only keeps students active but also helps stimulate their brains for the day ahead.”
– Dale Creasy, P.E. Teacher and Athletic Director

We believe in setting our students up for success, both in the classroom and beyond. Let's build strong minds and bodies together!

At Woodland, service learning is an essential part of our educational journey, where students put their knowledge into action and make a real difference in the community!

This past week, our 8th grade students had the opportunity to visit Porter Leath, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering children and families to live healthier, more independent lives. They worked directly with children in classrooms, bringing joy and positive energy to their day!
Meanwhile, our 7th graders spent their time at Madonna Learning Center and Church Health, engaging in a day filled with growth, compassion, and hands-on learning experiences.

We are proud of our students for contributing to these wonderful organizations and expanding their understanding of community involvement!

We know that transitioning to high school can be a challenging time.

In Middle School, we are dedicated to helping our students navigate this exciting change with confidence and ease. As we prepare our students for an increase in responsibility and greater independence, we focus on helping them balance all aspects of life – whether it is in the classroom, extracurricular activities, or their personal growth.

With academic offerings such as Latin 1, Physical Science, and Algebra 1 we are laying a solid foundation for success while inspiring students to explore and discover their passions. Together, we are building a base of knowledge, faith, and service that will last a lifetime.

In Galatians 5:22-23, joy is the second "fruit of the Spirit" – a joy that goes beyond circumstances. It’s not fleeting happiness, but a deep, lasting joy that the Holy Spirit helps us cultivate, even in the most difficult moments.

In chapel this morning, Mr. Moore spoke about the joy of Christmas, reminding us that the lights we see around us represent the joy that comes from Jesus. As we reflect on the season, we remember the powerful words from Luke 2:11: "For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."

This Christmas, let the joy of Jesus fill your heart, no matter what the season brings.

Our Middle School STEM classes are buzzing with exciting projects that equip students with real-world skills for the future! It’s not just about preparing kids for careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math—it's about teaching them to think critically, solve problems creatively, and approach challenges with confidence.

This semester, our students have been hands-on with some incredible projects! From designing, building, and coding robots to perform specific tasks, to connecting circuits to create Spin Art machines, and 7th grade students even dove into the world of flight and aviation by creating rocket launchers and kites! They’ve also recreated a version of the classic game Operation while exploring how circuits work.

It’s inspiring to watch our students push the limits of innovation every day!
