We had a wonderful (virtual) day with Woodland Presbyterian School building the Memphis aquifer in a cup and exploring the recharge zone in Fayette County at Pinecrest Camp. The white clay strip behind Charity is a section of the confining unit where it gives way to the recharge zone.
We had a blast working with Woodland Presbyterian School students and Sarah Houston from CAESER at University of Memphis today. This was the final lesson from the Our Aquifer program where we dug into learning all about this precious natural resource! Thank you Mrs. O'Hearn for setting up this program!

We enjoyed celebrating beloved science teacher David Ogdon today as he plans to retire after 32 years of service to Woodland Presbyterian School. David, affectionately known as "Dr. Amazing", dedicated his career to Woodland's science department and outdoor learning center. David acknowledged students interests and curiosities and made lessons and learning fun. He kept the science lab open and allowed students to create exciting, creative, and often messy experiments. His open-ended lessons inspired unhurried learning and a deeper understanding. We are grateful for David's passion and love of the school and dedicated the 2022 Woodland Yearbook to him this morning in Chapel. David will be greatly missed but we wish him all the best as he moves on to a new chapter in life!

Little Woodland girls and boys had their annual Muffins with Moms event this morning. They enjoyed breakfast and story time and then went outside to release the butterflies. Each year they raise caterpillars during Creepy, Crawly, Critter (Bug) lessons and watched them go through complete metamorphosis. The release of the butterflies with moms during the Muffins with Moms event is a sweet tradition!

A Woodland SK family won the "Lower School Carpool Greeter" for a week auction item at the School's Auction & Gala in early April! We loved having Rhett join Head of Lower School Mrs. Smythe at carpool each morning this week. They greeted students by opening car doors, playing music in the carpool line, giving out stickers, and ended the week with popsicles for Rhett's SK class on the playground.

Each year during the auction there are many opportunities for these "only at Woodland" experiences!

Pre-Kindergarten girls and boys performed their annual "Come Around the World with Me" program as part of their World Unit in class. During the month of April, PK students learned about the seven continents, the four oceans, how to say hello in 16 languages, and which continents different animals are from. They painted a large earth model as well as created homes and wrote stories about them. They learned a variety of songs performed this morning to moms, dads, family, and friends. Eighth graders joined in on a song many of them sang when they were in PK many years ago. It was a fun morning!

Timeline photos 04/27/2022

During the month of April, girls and boys in Little Woodland through 8th grade celebrated . Students in 2nd-8th grades were able to submit one poem written in class from a poetry writing activity which was then judged by a designated team of teachers. We will wrap-up the month by hosting a Poetry Cafe during lunch Friday where students, faculty, and staff may share their favorite poems. Congratulations to this year's poetry contest winners!

Our super creative art teacher Mrs. Duffey transformed Woodland into the land of sweets by displaying 2D and 3D art by students in Little Woodland through 8th grade. Families were able to enjoy the art show and reception as a come and go and enjoyed sweet treats, too! Student poetry was also on display as part of celebrating National Poetry Month. Thank you, Mrs. Duffey and volunteers for an amazing event!

Do you know that there are 17 species of penguins? Our 2nd graders do! These hardworking girls and boys learned how to research, draft, edit, revise, and finally publish their informational paragraphs. We are so proud of all their hard work and we were able to show it off to their parents this morning at a book signing in the library!
