Southeast Elementary Families,
As we continue focusing on Habit #1: Be Proactive, we’re helping our Squires understand that being proactive in their learning doesn’t mean everything will come easily. Sometimes leadership looks like sticking with something even when it’s hard.

That’s where productive struggle comes in!

When your scholar gets stuck on homework or a challenging task, try not to immediately give them the answer. Instead, give them space to think, try a strategy, make a mistake, ask a question, and try again.

Try asking:
“What have you tried so far?”
“What’s another strategy you could use?”
“Show me the part you understand.”
“What could you try before I help?”

Those moments of struggle can build confidence, perseverance, independence, and ownership.

Now we want to hear from our families!
What is something your Squire has overcome this month?

Drop it in the comments, or share a picture of your scholar showing perseverance and growth! 💙

Let’s celebrate the progress; not just the perfect result.

Be a Light. Be a Leader. Be Southeast.

Attendance Matters: Wednesdays Count!

Southeast Elementary Families, we have a concern that needs your immediate attention. We are beginning to see a trend of scholars being absent on Wednesdays.

While Wednesday is a half-day, it is still a full instructional day for our scholars. Teachers are teaching, scholars are learning, and important academic content is being covered. When scholars are absent, they miss valuable instructional time that cannot always be recreated.

Our schoolwide daily attendance goal is 96%, and increased Wednesday absences are making it difficult for us to meet that goal. This can also impact schoolwide attendance incentives that our scholars work hard to earn.

More importantly, attendance is directly connected to academic success. Every instructional day matters, including half-days.

We need our Southeast families to partner with us by making Wednesday attendance a priority. Unless your scholar is ill or has an excused reason for being absent, we expect them to be at school, on time, and ready to learn.

Wednesday counts. Instruction counts. Attendance matters. 💙📚

Thank you for helping us protect instructional time and keep our Squires moving forward!

SOUTHEAST ELEMENTARY FAMILY CHALLENGE!

Tonight, we’re challenging our families to make a little time for a leadership conversation with your Squire!

Try asking:

💬 What does being proactive look like for you at school and at home?
💬 What can you take ownership of this week?
💬 When something feels hard, what can you do before giving up?
💬 How can you make a positive choice even when no one is watching?

And parents… let your scholar do most of the talking! We want to hear how they think about leadership, responsibility, and making good choices.

Afterward, join the conversation below. Comment with your scholar’s favorite response OR share a picture of your family having your Leader in Me conversation.

Let’s fill our feed with Southeast families helping raise proactive Squires! 💙

Strong conversations. Strong habits. Strong scholars. Stronger leaders.

Southeast Elementary Families, one of the best ways we can bridge the work we are doing at school with home is through something simple: conversation.

This month, our Squires are learning Habit #1: Be Proactive: “I’m in charge of me.” Being proactive means learning to take ownership of our choices, actions, attitudes, and learning.

We encourage you to choose one of the conversation starters on this flyer and talk about it with your scholar tonight. You don’t need a lesson plan or a long family meeting; just a few intentional minutes to listen, ask questions, and allow your scholar to think.

Then come back and comment below!

💬 Tell us which question you asked and something interesting your scholar shared.

When the language of leadership moves from the classroom to the dinner table, car ride, or bedtime conversation, we help our Squires understand that leadership is a way of life.

💙 Talk. Listen. Lead Together. 💙

Hey Southeast Elementary Families!

Leadership starts at school, but it doesn’t have to stop there!

This year, we’re intentionally working to bridge Leader in Me between school and home. Each month, Southeast families will receive a Family Connection featuring our Habit of the Month, practical ways to practice it at home, family conversation starters, academic connections, a Squire Family Challenge, Dean’s Corner or Counselor's Corner, and more.

August Habit: Habit #1 — Be Proactive
“I’m in charge of me.”

As our Squires transition into rigorous, grade-level instruction, we want them to take ownership; not only of their choices and behavior, but also of their learning, effort, preparation, and perseverance.

Check out our first issue and talk about it together as a family! When school and home speak the same leadership language, we can help our Squires develop habits that extend far beyond the classroom.

💙 Be a Light. Be a Leader. Be Southeast.💙
