Downtown Elementary School With its distinctive architecture and bright, spacious interior, Downtown Elementary is a lesson in how design can enhance the learning environment.

Downtown Elementary is an Enriched Academics Optional School (State of TN Reward School) with a strong academic program for both optional and non-optional students. Our facility features computers in every classroom, as well as a computer lab with state-of-the-art equipment. We have a comprehensive science lab that is partially funded by the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. In addition

, our school has art and music facilities utilized for both during and after-school programs. Overall, Downtown Elementary is a colorful and stimulating learning environment. Downtown Elementary is in a convenient location for those who live and work in downtown Memphis. Downtown Elementary takes pride in its highly-qualified and experienced staff. All teachers are certified in the state of Tennessee. More than 60 percent of the faculty hold master's degrees, eight percent have doctoral degrees, and eight percent are degreed Educational Specialists. Members of our faculty have also won the Rotary Award for Teacher Excellence, and seven teachers have earned National Board Certification. The hardworking faculty at Downtown Elementary is committed to ensuring students are challenged to achieve, and teachers are dedicated to caring about every child. Parents are valued partners in Downtown Elementary's goal of making the learning experience a joy for its students. The school invites parents to visit their child's classroom to observe, participate in tutoring, chaperone field trips, and otherwise become involved.

Downtown Elementary School Cheerleader Tryouts will be held September 8–10 from 3:30–5:30 PM for girls in grades 1-5.

📋 REQUIREMENTS
All girls MUST have:
• A current physical
• $5 tryout fee
• White top
• Black bottoms
• Tennis shoes
BEFORE 3:30pm Tuesday!

📅 TRYOUT SCHEDULE
Tuesday, September 8: Learn the cheer & dance
Wednesday, September 9: Practice the cheer & dance
Thursday, September 10: OFFICIAL TRYOUTS ⭐
Outside judges will be present for official tryouts.

🚨 NO PHYSICAL = NO TRYOUT!
🚨 Girls who are not dressed appropriately will not be allowed to participate.

📣 TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT
The girls selected for the cheerleading team will be announced on Friday, September 11.

📚❤️ 901 READS DAY! Memphis pride on full display! 🏙️🖤

Today, our Skyscrapers celebrated with stories, smiles, and a whole lot of 901 spirit! From Memphis gear to books shared by familiar and new faces, our school was filled with hometown pride and the joy of reading! 📖✨

Thank you to our community partners and parent volunteers for sharing your time and voices with our students. You helped remind them that every book opens a door to new possibilities!

A special THANK YOU to the UAPB/AM&N Memphis Alumni Chapter for providing coffee, water, and pastries for our guests! 🦁🖤💛

We’re starting the week still smiling about the amazing turnout at our Annual Title I Meeting & DES Open House! 🏙️✨

Thank you to every family who showed up, connected with our teachers, explored resources, learned about clubs and tutoring, and spent time investing in their child’s success.
