🍪 Our November Monthly Celebration was so SWEET!

🍪 This month, our scholars got into the holiday spirit by decorating cookies and gingerbread houses. Scholars, keep up the great work, and keep earning those RISE points!

🍪 RISE points are earned by scholars who positively contribute to their classroom and school community. Points accumulate throughout the month and are rewarded weekly through our RISE store. Scholars whose points meet our point threshold are invited to a monthly celebration, just like this one. Points refresh each month, so every scholar has the chance to participate in our monthly celebrations.

Due to MSCS district closures regarding inclement weather and out of an abundance of caution, we will follow suit with an early dismissal at 1:45 PM this afternoon. Please remember that all off-site and on-site after-school activities will be canceled this afternoon, this includes MAM, RTB, and Scholar Crew.

Our partner school, VCP, will close at 2:00 PM this afternoon.

🦃 MCP is proud to announce our November Scholars of the Month! Congratulations on your hard work both inside and outside of the classroom.

⭐️ MCP implemented this program to promote our R.I.S.E. Values (Respect, Integrity, Scholarship, and Excellence) and to celebrate the overall growth and achievement of our scholars. Scholars are chosen each month by their educators to celebrate any accomplishments our scholars achieve. Scholars and their families are then invited to a breakfast to recognize their hard work!

October 23-31 is Red Ribbon Week!

Red Ribbon Week celebrates the national commitment to remain drug-free. This year, MCP implemented daily themes for scholars to dress down in to show their commitment to Red Ribbon Week’s message.

These were our daily themes:

Monday- Hats off to Drugs: Wear your favorite hat to school.
Tuesday- Literacy Day Superhero: Dress as your favorite book character or superhero
Wednesday- Wake Up Drug-Free: Wear your pajamas to school.
Thursday- Team Up Against Drugs: Wear your favorite team jersey.
Friday- Spook Away the Drugs: Wear your Halloween costume!

Starting this week, our $1 Dress Down Fridays are now Donation Fridays! To dress down on Fridays during the month of November, scholars can donate a canned good or non-perishable item when they arrive to school. These items will help support our community members celebrate the end of the year holidays.

💥 Our Literacy Night was SUPER!

For Literacy Night, we had Superhero-themed stations, door prizes, snacks, and more! After completing the stations, scholars received TWO FREE books as a prize.

MCP After School Activities Interest Survey

After-school activities are a vital and integral part of a scholar's education. We are happy to present a robust slate of after-school activities for our scholars. All the proposed activities will occur after school on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, with practices lasting no more than 2 hours. Scholars that attend events after regular school hours do so of their own free will and accept the responsibility of obtaining transportation to and from the practice, event, or game. Parents/Guardians must pick their scholar(s) up within 10 mins of the conclusion of any after-school activity and sign them out at the front office.

We want all scholars to feel a part of our school community. Please complete the interest survey (linked below) to tell us which one of the many activities your scholar will be interested in participating in this school year. We need all results by Friday, September 30th. Many of these will start within the week so get ready to have fun, learn some techniques and embrace MCP more.

MCP After School Activities Interest Survey Our After School Activities promotes a passion for learning by providing scholars with an opportunity to further enhance their elementary school experience through a series of diverse club activities that support the academic environment of Memphis College Preparatory Elementary School.

MCP had so much fun last week!

📚 For Grandparents’ Day, we held a breakfast to celebrate our MCP family members. We played a few rounds of bingo before checking out our book fair!

☀️ On Friday, we held our first Scholar of the Month Breakfast. Scholars of the Month are educator-nominated scholars who have shown dedication to their learning. Each classroom selects one scholar that has displayed academic and behavioral excellence! These scholars are invited to a breakfast with their families and are given a certificate and gifts from MCP.

✏️ Working towards being Scholar of the Month promotes success at home and in the classroom! Educators select a new scholar each month, there are many ways to motivate your scholar to be selected, too.

This week, we will be hosting a Vaccination Clinic on September 21, from 11:00 AM-2:00 PM. Please check your email for more information. If you have any questions or would like more details, call our front desk at (901)620-6475.

As we approach the Fall season and the temperature slowly drops, we want all our families as prepared as possible. COVID continues to affect our children and the lives of families daily.

Vaccination and proper hygiene are part of the arsenal available to prevent severe infection. We will be sending home information and permission slips on Friday for scholars. Also, we encourage everyone who needs any childhood vaccinations to get them done as well.

☀️ MCP Grandparents: Tomorrow is the day to celebrate our dedicated grandparents. Our breakfast will start at 9 AM and some rounds of bingo to follow!

📚 The Scholastic Book Fair opens this week! Families and scholars can shop during and after school. The Book Fair will be available until Friday.

📚Open House allowed our families to learn all things MCP! Our families also gained tips and strategies to continue learning at home with their scholars. After, families visited their scholars' classrooms and participated in an interactive lesson with our educators.

🎓 Connecting with families is fundamental to scholars’ learning growth. Family engagement is a significant way to motivate scholars while boosting their confidence and desire to learn.

Here’s how a scholar referral works:

1: You tell your friends and family members how much you love MCP.

2. Your friend or family member enrolls their scholar into MCP. During the enrollment process, they tell us who referred them to our school.

3. Your scholar will receive 1 FREE uniform set for each new MCP scholar you refer!

✏️ Our Professional Development for Summer 2022-23 has come to an end!

Summer Professional Development gives our educators extra time to learn new skills and set goals for our upcoming school year. Our team developed new skills while learning as a team through rock climbing, group yoga/meditation, and group problem solving. MCP is ready to meet all scholars for the first day of school, this Monday, August 8.

Our Boy's Soccer Team and Girl's Spirit Team tryouts will begin tryouts during our first month of school. Tryouts are open to all Second to Fifth-grade scholars.

☀️ Our Summer Bridge Program has come to an end!

Our scholars have worked diligently for the past month during our Summer Bridge Program. On the last day of the program, our scholars walked through the school to view their underwater-themed artwork from our art class. We celebrated our last day with parties in each classroom and pizza for our scholars!

Our male scholars in the 4th and 5th grades got the chance to play basketball with the Men’s Southwest TN CC Basketball Team before the concluding the school year. Afterward, they got the chance to speak with the team about the importance of being respectful– on and off the court.

School Champions are staff members at partner schools who have gone above and beyond in their devotion and commitment to their students’ well-being. 🐝 Today was MCP’s first school-wide Spelling Bee!

After TCAP testing finished, our scholars learned various vocabulary words to prepare for our competition!

Our study lists broke up into three different tiers: Kindergarten, Grades 1-3, and Grades 4-5. Our scholars showed C-O-U-R-A-G-E today on the stage! We are so proud of all scholars who participated and remained committed to learning until the end of the school year!
