Ever heard of Dred Scott? This week OBMS Spotlight students pretended we were all at the Supreme Court building in Washington during Dred Scott’s trial. We made protest signs to show our support!

Everyone knows the famous Harriet Tubman of the Underground Railroad, right? Of course, they do! But how many of us have studied Peg Leg Joe and his “Follow The Drinking Gourd” composition? OBMS Spotlight had a wonderful time reading this book, listening to the original song, learning about the song’s origin, and finally creating their own secret codes to describe a journey from one destination to another.

Happy National School Counselor Appreciation Week!

We are so thankful for our school counselors who listen, guide, encourage, and advocate for our students each day. Our school is better because of you! ❤️

Greek Mythology illustrations by my Spotlight kiddos. The assignment was to only use illustration, no words to depict a particular Greek god or goddess. We can all see who the more popular choices were. 😊. Do you recognize any others by the drawings?

There are some talented artists in OBMS Spotlight!

Ever heard of unique art? My Spotlight students and I looked at art forms some would consider unique, unusual, or maybe even pointless. But we learned that ART is ANYTHING you create to express yourself! Ask your kiddos about Dirty Car Art! 😜

For their semester exam, OBMS Spotlight created candy art! Peruse through these pictures and comment what you see!

I knew today would be special! However, I had no idea that it would touch my heart the way that it did. A few of my Spotlight students, and I joined Mayor Ken Adams and other Olive Branch leaders to honor our veterans with the Wreaths Across America event. The ceremony took place at 12:00 at Olive Branch’s own Historical Blocker Cemetery. Thank you to all of our veterans for the ultimate sacrifices you made protecting our freedom!

Bonus: my former student sang the National Anthem for the opening ceremony!

Olive Branch Middle School Spotlight painted ornaments this week for the Grey Elephant Ornaments cause, which was founded by my fellow Spotlight teacher, Jessica Bunyard. I am super proud of my students work and willingness to create such beautiful art for such a wonderful cause!

This week is “Veteran’s Day week” as I like to call it. My students agreed that yesterday, today, and everyday, we should honor our veterans. OBMS SPOTLIGHT wrote Veteran’s Day speeches for a mock assembly, expressing honor, pride, and words of thanks to our veterans. They were magnificent!
