Rodrigo Villalpando-Vizcaino, the assistant director of water resources and field operations at CAESER, has successfully secured a substantial new contract valued at over $500,000 with the Memphis Regional Megasite (MRM). This site is currently the location for the construction of Ford's BlueOval City. The collaboration between CAESER and MRM marks a proactive approach to addressing the concerns about the sustainability and vulnerability of local resources, particularly the Memphis aquifer. Happy 4th of July! Fireworks are beautiful to watch. Firework debris, not so much. Fireworks contain metals, nitrates, and sulfur, along with paper, plastic, and other materials. If left on the ground, rain can wash these pollutants into storm drains and out to waterways. Using fireworks responsibly includes disposing of them correctly. Leave spent fireworks for 20 minutes to ensure no accidental detonation. Sweep up used fireworks into a bucket with a small amount of water and leave overnight to soak outside. The next day, pour the bucket's contents into a plastic bag, tie it tightly, and dispose of it in your garbage can. These small actions can have a big impact on the environment.

Excited to share this! CAESER has been dedicated to environmental and agricultural research for nearly three decades. Our research with Dr. Eddie Jacobs has excellent potential for environmental and agricultural assessments. Congratulations, Dr. Jacobs πŸŽ‰

Dr. Eddie Jacobs, a senior researcher with the Center for Applied Earth Science and Engineering Research - CAESER at the University of Memphis, recently received a $3.4 million grant from the U.S. Army Research Office to continue developing a network of drones with different sensors affixed to each to enhance imaging and reporting capabilities.

A professor of electrical and computer engineering in the Herff College of Engineering, Jacobs also serves as the director of the Drones, Robotics, and Navigation Enabled Systems Research Cluster in the FedEx Institute of Technology at the UofM.
