"Barrier Free" is in our Buckman Quad this week. Meet the artist Yancy Villa-Calvo and learn more about her artwork from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on March 25, 26 and 28 in the Quad.

In conjunction with the current exhibitions in the Beverly & Sam Ross Gallery, local artist (and CBU alumna) Yancy Villa-Calvo will present her nationally-exhibited art installation Barrier Free in CBU’s Buckman Quadrangle during the week of March 25-29. Barrier Free uses the power of art to reverse the controversial idea of the U.S-Mexico border proposal. The traveling installation advocates for and celebrates unity, diversity, and inclusion. It provides opportunity to reflect on the challenges of human-made and systemic barriers that divide us, from immigration laws to mass incarceration. The interactive piece, along with its programmatic elements, is a call to action to build a society that embraces the contributions of a diverse world.

How to Protect Your Library With Medieval Book Curses

From the article: "Given the extreme effort that went into creating books, scribes and book owners had a real incentive to protect their work. They used the only power they had: words. At the beginning or the end of books, scribes and book owners would write dramatic curses threatening thieves with pain and suffering if they were to steal or damage these treasures."
