University of Memphis College of Health Sciences

The College of Health Sciences at the University of Memphis provides students with a quality education focused on the fundamental principles of health, exercise, nutrition and physical activity, while equipping them with the cutting-edge knowledge and skills needed to fulfill leadership roles in their chosen area of specialty.

From introductory courses in health and wellness, to specialized courses in nutrition therapy, biomechanics, health sciences, healthcare leadership, exercise physiology, physical education teacher education and program planning, students are taught to analyze and synthesize data and to develop alternative approaches to problem solving. As a result, students are prepared to move rapidly upward in their chosen career path upon graduation, whether seeking employment or advanced graduate study.

Specifically, College of Health Sciences undergraduate degrees may prepare students for graduate work in a variety of settings (e.g., physical therapy, occupational therapy, physical education, coaching, strength and conditioning, medicine, dietetics and clinical nutrition and more). Faculty members within the academic disciplines are highly engaged in relevant research—presenting and publishing their findings in a variety of mediums across the country and around the world.

Six undergraduate and six graduate degree programs are currently offered within the College of Health Sciences as well as a graduate certificate in sport nutrition and dietary supplementation. Our minor in Medical Assisting is a popular program for students interested in obtaining patient contact hours while working part-time through college. We also offer Nutrition, Health & Wellness as an academic minor for all majors.
