The STAX Music Academy inspires young people and enhances their academic, cognitive, performance, and leadership skills by utilizing music with an intense focus on the rich legacy and tradition of STAX Records. Vision

Stax Music Academy exists to nurture and present the next generation of great Soul Communicators from the greater Soulsville region, holistically equipping them to excel and to impact the world through the universal language of music.

Memphis, last night you showed up and showed out! SMA students and alumni helped open the brand-new Satellite Music Hall in Crosstown, with performances from the 910 Band, 926 Alumni Band, and the Jazz Trio for hundreds of guests.

We’re looking forward to what’s ahead as Satellite becomes a training center for SMA’s Music Employs program, giving students hands-on experience and a direct connection to the music industry.

Catch the Soulsville community at the City of Memphis’ 901 Day on Beale this Sunday!

🎶 SMA student Mckenneith Cherry will perform on the Main Stage at 11 AM.

🎶 Bria Saulsberry, City of Memphis Poet Laureate and our Director of Education and Youth Development, will perform with 901Lit at the Handy Park Stage at 1 PM.

🎶 SMA’s 910 Band will join SMA alumna KIRBY and others on the Main Stage for a special tribute honoring the legacy of David Porter Music at 4 PM.

We’re excited to help open Satellite Music Hall, Memphis’ newest live music venue, on Wednesday, Sept. 2, with SMA students and alumni as the first artists to perform on its new stage!

The evening will feature performances from SMA’s 910 Band, 926 Band, and Stax Alumni Jazz Trio. Tickets are $10, with 100% of face-value proceeds donated to SMA to support our music education and youth development efforts.

The partnership will also provide students in SMA’s Music Employs program with hands-on learning opportunities at Satellite, creating a direct connection to the music industry.
