[07/06/20]   Dear Leadership Prep Families and Staff,

First, I hope this message finds you and your loved ones safe and healthy. Thank you for your patience during this new reality for us all. Leadership Preparatory Charter School has been working with the Shelby County Schools COVID-19 task force to make decisions that prioritize the health and safety of LPCS students, families, and employees. Understand that as an SCS public charter school, our plans for reopening and the development of best practices are intrinsically tied to the entire SCS reopening district plan. As we are required to utilize SCS district services for many critical needs, our LPCS reopening plan must not only align with CDC guidelines but the SCS district plan as well.

Having received the full SCS reopening plan today, the LPCS Reopening Task Forces is now in a better position to refine and complete our reopening plan.

In addition to a wide range of health and safety protocols based on CDC and Health Department guidance, our plan will provide two learning options for students in the fall in direct response to parent input from LPCS parent survey. Families can choose between two options for the first semester based on the needs of their child and the format they feel will best support his/her learning, including a hybrid in-school option and a fully virtual model. Regardless of the format parents select, our commitment is that the instructional content will remain consistent, continuous and high quality.
A detailed plan for all options will be provided by next week.

Important things to know now include:

-School will likely start August 31 – waiting on SCS decision. We will follow the SCS start date.
-Face mask requirements – hybrid in school
-Smaller classroom size - hybrid in school
-Social distancing practices- hybrid in school
-Hand washing & sanitizing- hybrid in school
-Temperatures checks & procedures- hybrid in school
to prevent the spread of germs
-Student cohorting - hybrid in school
-Before- & after-school care – hybrid in school
-Student meals - hybrid in school
-Laptops will be provided for ALL students - hybrid in school and virtual

This year will be a year of firsts for us all, and we are going to have to work our way through the coming school year together with the guidance of the Health Department and the CDC. LPCS will continue to make decisions in conjunction with SCS. We will continue to use the best data and direction available to us, and we are committed to updating our families and staff as soon as possible.

Sincerely,
LP Team
