Here's a new summer postcard from Senior Musical Theatre major Katie Blackburn! 💙🐅

"I’m Katie Blackburn, a senior Musical Theatre major. This summer I spent the past two weeks working for Inner Light Family Theatre as the Musical Director for their camp Peter Pan Jr. I worked with kids ages 7-18. The first day was auditions and callbacks and after the campers went home, we cast the show. For the next week, the kids learned all the music, dances, and blocking. I spent the first half of the day teaching the kids music for the show before our lunch break. After that, the kids would learn a dance or two. At the end of each day, we would sit on the stage and have what we call 'love circle' where the kids get to share good things that happened that day or shoutout someone they thought was doing well. I love that time because it fosters a loving environment for everybody. On the Friday of the second week, the kids ran through the show once, have lunch, and then at 3:00 and 6:00 performed Peter Pan Jr. for the community. I absolutely love working with this group of people and the community surrounding them."

Dylan worked at Impact Church Camp at Lipscomb University:
"So, at this camp we would take 2 days where there were no campers and set up a massive elaborate set. Then I would be rehearsing the skit we put on. The theme was fairy tales and I was Hansel. Every day we got to be a part of “Morning impact” this was like a big fun thing with a bunch of mini skits and jokes and stuff to get kids excited. When we weren’t doing this, we would be out on campus engaging with the kids, playing with them, and hanging out. The kids ranged from high school- middle school. It was a great treat and one of my favorite summer jobs!"

We just got a postcard from Sophomore Musical Theatre major, Recco Sargent, about what he's doing over the summer! 💙🐅

"Hi UofM! This summer I am working at a kids sleep-away camp as a Performing Arts Specialist! I spend every day with kids, working as a counselor. I also work in the theatre where we are performing High School Musical with the kids, acting as Music Director. This experience has been such a blast so far and I have learned so much about myself as a human and a teacher. My day to day is mixture of performing arts (music, dance, and theatre), counselor and athlete lol."

We just got a postcard from Senior Dance Science major, Katye Baker! She's a student at American Dance Festival's Summer Dance Intensive.

"This summer, I am spending 3 and a half weeks in Durham, North Carolina on the campus of Duke University at American Dance Festival. Over the course of 3 and a half weeks, I am taking class from a multitude of dance artists. Among company masterclasses and drop-in classes, I take Limon Technique, Countertechnique, and Repertory with Autumn Eckman 4 times a week.

In addition, I have the opportunity to attend tons of performances from dance companies including the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company, Mark Morris Dance Group, and Jesse Factor.

So far, this experience has allowed me to meet and work with people from all over the country and beyond. This community is amazing and I am already so inspired by the experience."
