THE SHOP IS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE!!!
Don't freak out, I just have to catch up!
I have some very patient customers that have waited in excess of a year and a half for their instruments to be completed.
As life goes, there are always emergencies, "buddy" jobs, front counter demands that "I gotta get this done for my favorite customer", etc.
No more.
I don't care if Knopfler calls and needs a neck-reset.
No more new jobs until I can take care of these wonderfully patient people.
I am grateful for all of my customers, but I am not the only shop in town, and I will gladly refer you to any of the other fine repair guys in the area....Gradinger, Stoker or even TK.
I'll post again when I am able to take new work.
Thanks for your understanding, and I luv's ya' back!

So how do You test your headstock break repairs........?

MonoNeon's dad stopped by today to get his Fender MonoNeon bass set up by Bob Scoby Guitars

No more nose Triscuits! Investing about 3K in a Hepa filtered dust collection system and filtration system. Most folks have no idea how much bone dust I suck in during a week.....and that was still while using a small vac on the sanders.

I wish y'all Road Dogs would stop breaking stuff!
......and I luv's ya' back.

Waddya mean a refret is +$500 bucks...since when?
This is when considering a good quality aftermarket replacement neck makes sense.
Most times I can refret a finished, maple fretboard with no issues, no finish work etc.
When the neck has serious "dips" and "waves", I have no choice but to level the board prior to installing the new frets.
Consider the additional time and labor it takes to straighten the board, deepen each slot seal it, refinsh it and buff it out-then add that to the regular cost of the work involved in the regular work of a standard refret.

I hear it all the time..
"Four to Six months to get a bridgeplate replaced or do a neck reset etc.? You guys need a better repair guy!
This is the shop....every day, with forty waiting.
Too long a wait? Get your cousin to slap some Elmer's on your gear then.

The weird-ass tools you have to cobble together just to fix a guitar......

I have had a "Neck Reset" job (no-not the same one) on a bench in the shop every day since April of 2020. Eighteen resets since then.
Logical folks would say-"hey, that's good job security!"
After doing the P&L from last year, I find that I lost over $200.00 on each one based on time alone. That's breaking even-then shelling out 200.00 out of pocket on each job.
As soon as the five one's in my line are done. I will not take in any more neck reset jobs. Just FYI.

"I have to quit doing neck resets and all the other heavy repair work so I can get some builds done."
Ahh, the first lie I've told myself this year..............

Nuthin' quite like working on yet another "Blue" guitar.
A Manzer 18" Absynthe needing a bit of love!

"Can't he work on more than one at a time...?"
Four hanging on the wall waiting on parts (forever), Four on the floor in process. Re-frettin, yankin' necks off of bodies... it's Mayhem I tell ya!

Nothing quite like having a real-deal 52' Tele on the fret jig. Unobtanium! 6.6 lbs of heaven!

No...that's not pasta, and no, that's not water either.

Testing yet another broken headstock repair.
PASS...now on to refinishing.

Regular, no binding refret......$300-350.00
Refretting a vintage 55' maple neck where I cant level the board, radius it, touch the fret slots, remove one speck of dirt or alter it in any way other than put frets in..............$800.00 to 1K.

Here we go again...yet another LP headstock repair.
Remember kiddies.....say it with me,
"We remove the guitar cord before putting the guitar in it's stand".
Just a tip from yer' ol' Uncle Bob.

Makin' Sawdust.....
In other news, I will NOT be taking any more repair work until 2022.
The shop is simply too backed up.
Thank you -that is all.

So, how do you test your broken headstock repairs??

Busted necks everywhere.....must be Wednesday.

Chris Rea - Working on it
To everyone who has an instrument in the cue line..........

I'm getting so damn' tired of fixing other "shops" repairs....

The things you have to do when you have a shop that pretty much anyone can walk in to.......

I have a cool job.
There is no money in a cool job, but-
I get to work on cool stuff and meet cool people...
Some are cooler than others.
