September 23 / Harris Concert Hall / 7:30 PM

Confluence is a program celebrating collaboration and combination with music of Benjamin Britten, Libby Larsen, Jane K, Beethoven, Chen Yi, and Mattias Seiber. I’m very fortunate to be joined in this program by my lovely, generous colleagues and friends!

Sketches and musings, more from my time in the jamesturrellart SkySpace. Searching for more places of resonance to continue to experiment.

When I was little, I used to fall asleep to a variety of music, but most commonly I rested to Paul Winter’s Canyon Lullaby album. Sublime music recorded live in the Grand Canyon - this has always been a source of inspiration and wonder.

Today I started my journey back to Tennessee. The past three weeks spent creating and collaborating at Bang on a Can MASS MoCA were so invigorating and fulfilling. I’m very grateful to have played a small role in making some stupendous sounds with some equally stupendous friends and colleagues. I am sure that new collaborations and projects will be announced in the coming months, but now I’m reveling in all of the revelry (creds go to Mark Stewart for the revelry-ing).

Yesterday I had a moment to improvise in the jamesturrellart SkySpace. Inspired by the Glassworks performance by boac_allstars, here are a few notes. This feels fitting.

Thank you to everyone who charged my artistic batteries! I’ll post more pictures and clips soon (probably tomorrow) and tag everyone!

Writing this post while listening to some truly mind boggling creative soundchecks and performances here at bangonacan ahead of the first of the 2026 Loud Weekend at massmoca. The past 3 weeks have been so refreshing and wonderful. I’ll be reflecting on the music made and imaginative musings for weeks and months to come. The collaborations and new pieces which will inevitably rise out of this experience will be very special.

A busy fall to come with so much varied music in varied spaces with old friends and new friends alike. Of course many things will be added and edited along the way!

Last day in the office before I head out for the summer’s musical endeavors! Cane processing, new reeds, more time in the woodshed (there is never enough time 🤦), and a few lessons to some ambitious students!

Looking forward to sharing two very different but equally exciting programs at the 2026 International Double Reed Society Conference in just under 2 weeks in Oxford, Ohio!

Day 2: The Contemporary Oboe, Cross Genre Explorations, 3:00-3:25 Soeurs Recital Hall CPA
Joined by pianist Meng Yuan (), this recital will present three contemporary works that push the boundaries of the oboe repertoire through jazz, blues, improvisation, and electronics. The program features works by Jane Kozhevnikova (), Dawson Hull (), and Nathan Hall ().

Day 3: En Garde! A Joust of Two Oboes, 3:10-3:35 Presser Hall 008
With Dr. Rachel Messing () , this program explores the rich and growing repertoire for two oboes and oboe/English horn duo. The music of Joseph Bologne, Arnold Running, and Jeffery Rathbun trace the instrument's role beyond the orchestra, showcasing varied dialogue, virtuosity, and a dizzying array of sounds and colors.

I'm grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with such wonderful colleagues and composers, and I look forward to connecting with friends, colleagues, and fellow double reed enthusiasts. See you at IDRS 2026!

I’m excited to share that my proposal has been accepted for presentation at the 68th Annual Tennessee Music Educators Association Conference in January 2027 at the Ga***rd Opryland Resort in Nashville!

I’ll be presenting:

Building the 21st Century Applied Studio: Technology Systems for Organization, Feedback, and Student Development

This session explores practical technology solutions that can help applied instructors streamline studio management, enhance student feedback, improve communication, and support student growth in today’s learning environment.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this outstanding conference and look forward to connecting with music educators from across Tennessee and beyond.
