In SASSI, our goal is to promote student progress in the various programs at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. We provide a variety of services and resources to help facilitate learning and enhance student performance.
SASSI also assists students in developing individualized learning strategies to meet their academic goals. Individual and group coaching are available for all students as well as consultations with SASSI staff. SASSI services are free of charge and consultations with SASSI staff are completely confidential.

Kevin Estrada, a third-year student pharmacist on the Knoxville campus, is working on a program to allow students in professional programs such as pharmacy to learn Spanish and better serve their patients. -Competitors will have 3 minutes and 1 static PowerPoint slide to summarize their entire thesis.
-It’s a good opportunity to publicize your research, build your communication skills and enrich your CV.
-Cash prizes will be given to 1st and 2nd place winners as well as the people’s choice.

HJC Member Spotlight: Tim Dotson
Tim Dotson received his Bachelor of Arts in English from Tennessee State University and is co-founder/Executive Director of a theatre production company called Inner City South. Mr. Dotson started at UTHSC as a standardized patient (SP)/ proctor in the Kaplan Clinical Skills Center in 2014. In 2019, he joined the CHIPS staff as a Standardized Patient Trainer. Mr. Dotson completed the Diversity Certificate program and felt inspired by UTHSC’s commitment to its students and staff by addressing how unconscious bias and cultural stereotypes play a role in how people get medical care. Mr. Dotson as a creative and educator wants to lend his voice to bring awareness to healthcare providers of the existing differences and needs of the community they will serve. As a black man, he has personal experience to how access to healthcare and disparate treatment is a systematic flaw in our healthcare system. Mr. Dotson joined the Health Justice Collective to help start dialogue and create action steps to reduce the gaps in access, resources and knowledge.
