Westminster faculty and staff had a fantastic time kicking back at our Christmas party this year! We feasted, and danced, and sang, and of course, awarded prizes for ugliest Christmas sweater!
Congrats to all of the Westminster scholars who competed at the Latin Fall Festivus! You can read about their experience and all of the awards they won in our latest blog post:

Our Upper School students were blessed to hear from Alum Frank Roberts and his wife Virginia this morning during Conversatio. The Roberts shared about their journey as foster care and adoptive parents, and helped our students understand how their participation in Red Tub Day will bless children who are currently in the foster care system in Memphis.
The Daily Memphian's Candace Echols interviewed our Head of School, Dr. Atwood, for a piece about cell phones in schools that featured Westminster Academy's new policy. We have seen lots of positive results among our students, as Junior Micah Stout noted in the article, "...having no phones makes people more engaged with others as well as with their education."

Thank you to all veterans who have served or are currently serving our country!
We had a great morning welcoming pastors from churches across the Memphis area. Thank you to all who came to hear more about our mission and vision, and to pray for our school and students!
What a beautiful morning of singing joyfully to our God at Hymn in the Gym!!
The juniors on our service committee delivered over 300 red tubs to churches across the Memphis area today! These tubs will be filled as part of Red Tub Day to bless foster families in the community.
Congratulations to Senior Emma Kate McDaniel on being chosen for the NFHS Student-Athlete Award of Excellence!!
The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association ( Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA)) together with the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) has established the NFHS Award of Excellence for Sportsmanship, Ethics & Integrity to honor remarkable student-athletes who have demonstrated exceptional character and sportsmanship in their athletic pursuits.
Bravo, Emma Kate, we are proud to call you one of our own!
In 9th grade biology, our students are bringing learning to life by making paper models of amino acids bonding in a condensation reaction called a peptide bond. They are also narrating the process of proteins folding by using a pipe cleaner and bead model with one another. The students' questions led to a new activity of denaturing a protein with heat (cooking) and acid (vinegar). Eggs are a complete protein and made the perfect example for this experiment!
Bringing these chemical reactions to life not only engages our students in a different method of learning, but it reinforces the concepts to solidify the lessons in their minds.
Our Varsity Girls AND Boys Cross Country Teams are BOTH headed to STATE!!! Congrats to the girls, who placed first in the region, and boys, who placed second. đ€©đ€©đ€© Also, shout out to sophomore Caroline Anthony who placed 1st in the girlsâ race!!
Congrats to Senior Parker Tenent on making the The Daily Memphian All-Metro Boys' Golf Team!
Daily Memphian postseason golf awards: Standouts from Hutchison, MUS claim top honors Charles Snider, Catherine Bowie lead this yearâs honorees of outstanding Memphis-area high school golfers.
This Thursday is our OPEN HOUSE for prospective families!! If youâre curious about what makes Classical Christian Education so unique, come hear from our teachers about how they love the Lord & love learning, and how they want the same for your children!
Our 6th grade students are back on campus after spending two days at The Grove retreat center learning about God, leadership, and friendship while also having a great time bonding over games, meals, and activities.
As part of our main hallway remodel, we have included a space that will be a rotating exhibit to feature local, Memphis artists throughout the years. Our first featured artist is our very own and incredibly talented Beth Winterburn!
Beth is an abstract artist working primarily with inks and acrylics, utilizing watercolor techniques. Her work tells a story of interpersonal dynamics via color, shape, line and texture. She is also mom to one Alum and two current Westminster students.
This collection is entitled "Interwoven" and was inspired by a quote from Bessel van der Kolk - "It takes enormous trust and courage to allow yourself to remember."
Beth says, "Every collection begins with connection points - whether those are physical connections between hands and brush, brush and paint or conceptual connections between past and present, dreams and reality. This series started simply with a connection between myself and the canvas - trusting that my physical body can remember and then translate scattered thoughts and experiences onto a real surface, using the appropriate materials to best speak the language of ideas. Airy strokes and watery pools are juxtaposed against clean edges and thin marks. Bold, earthy, grounding tones are intertwined with feather-like sweeps of color.
"In this season of life, I find myself at a bit of a halfway point between the past and the future. As I'm learning to weave all of my good and hard experiences together, I hope that as you study these pieces, you'll reflect on your own journey and will see parts of your life tapestry emerging as well."
We hope you will stop by to see her exhibit in person!
Beth also has a current collection on display for purchase at The Shainberg Art Gallery in the Jewish Community Center. The show closes on October 30 and is open to the public. Call ahead for studio hours (901-761-0810).
Congrats to Senior Parker Tenent on placing 10th in the state in last week's TSSAA II A Boys' Golf Championship!!
