The Margolin Hebrew Academy PTA would like to invite you to participate in our annual calendar. Our calendar lists important dates, special events, and holidays. It is distributed to all families in our school and over 200 other members across the community. The calendar will run from August 2021 through August 2022 - a total of thirteen months. It is referred to daily and plays a vital role for many people in our Jewish community by notifying them of events and providing important advertiser information.

There are several ways to participate. Businesses can advertise in the calendar and reach a broad spectrum of families in the area. Individuals may sponsor and/or honor family members by publicizing birthdays and anniversaries.

All money raised by this project goes directly to helping the MHA continue to provide an excellent secular and Judaic studies program for the children of this community.

Please click on the link below to participate.

Thank you in advance.
* Advertisements and Sponsorships will not be listed unless payment is received by July 25, 2021.

Yesterday the Kindergartners hosted both Pre-K 4 classes for a visit. This is something they do each year, so the students can acclimate to the new environment and ask any questions they may have about kindergarten.

The two classes read an ABC zoo animal story. They had a chance to name words that begin with the letters on the pages. The kindergartners then shared something about their day that may be different than what the children do now in Pre-K 4. After that, the Pre-K 4 students had a chance to ask any questions they may have about kindergarten.

The MHA is pleased to announce that Josh and Elana Kahane have endowed a special new award to be given annually at the Eighth Grade Advancement Ceremony. The Bettie Thomas Chesed Award will be presented each year to a student, selected by the faculty, who has displayed exemplary midos (character) and the value of chesed and kindness towards others. The annual award is named in loving memory of Josh and Elana’s grandmother, Mrs. Bettie Thomas z”l, who epitomized loving kindness and dedicated her life to communal service, most especially service to the MHA and its students whom she loved so greatly. In addition to giving the awardee a plaque and gift, the Kahane Family will increase their annual donation to the MHA-FYOS with a substantial gift to the Chesed Fund in honor of the awardee.

At last night's Eighth Grade Advancement, Josh Kahane presented the first Bettie Thomas Chesed Award to Nathan Greenbaum. Dr. Josh Wise, Grades 1-8 Principal, said, "Nathan is a young man who consistently does the right thing, even when nobody is watching. In fact, that’s what he prefers. He does not seek accolades or publicity for his actions. He does the right thing because it’s the right thing. And being presented with this honor might be hard for him. Intellectually, he knows that he earned it, but his humility and dedication to others would surely prefer that it be kept out of the spotlight."

Mazel tov to Nathan Greenbaum! We look forward to celebrating our deserving recipients of the Bettie Thomas Chesed Award and honoring her legacy for many years to come.

This morning our ECE students had a special visit from a couple of deputies from the Shelby County Sheriff's Department to coincide with the Pre-K 3's unit on Community Helpers. Assistant Director Michael Joffre and McGruff the Crime Dog came to speak to the children about making safe decisions at home and in public, being aware of "Stranger Danger", and about the work they do to protect our community. It was both a fun and educational experience for our youngest students!
