Today we celebrated Dr. Seuss' birth and all throughout the day,
Our ECE students honored the quirky author in many different ways.
Teachers dressed in Seuss costumes - yes, every member of the team!
The silliness of their outfits made their students laugh and scream!
In fact, this seussical spiritedness took over and not one of us disagrees,
That it just might be the reason that our library is sprouting truffula trees!
Kindergarteners were rhyming nonstop and even did Lorax math,
The Pre-K classes were acting goofy whenever you crossed their path!
Characters overtook the MHA - we found the Cat in the Hat and Things One and Two,
Budding readers were engrossed in Hop on Pop and The 500 Hats of Bartholomew,
Despite all of these zany shenanigans one thing remained the same,
It was another excellent day in the ECE - one that was met with great acclaim!
Our wonderful second graders received their first Chumashim at their Chagigat HaChumash on February 6. Over the past few weeks, the students have been working with their parents and Morah Chany to decorate beautiful covers for their Chumashim! They all turned out amazing and we look forward to watching these students cherish and learn from these Chumashim for many years to come.
The CYHSB Winter Shabbaton is a wrap! The boys had an incredible weekend!

This weekend the CYHSB had a fantastic Shabbat with students, Rabbeim and KTM in Natchez Trace State Park for their Spring Shabbaton. They delved over Shabbat into Jewish Identity and had some rich and meaningful activities and conversations.

On Motzei Shabbat, the students had fun playing laser tag and on Sunday they enjoyed a beautiful hike at Fall Creek Falls in Middle TN. Today they are skiing! Stay tuned for pictures!

Over the past few weeks, the students in grades 1-8 have been learning about poetry and writing their own original works. Each class held a contest to determine a class winner for the school-wide poetry contest, which was held on Friday. Our theme for the poetry contest this year was family.

Thank you to everyone who came to cheer on our poets! Congratulations to the contest winners and to all of our MHA poets on a job well done!
We are so proud of our GMSG Basketball Team for their amazing performance in the Captain Hyman P. Galbut Girls Basketball Shabbaton! The girls defeated TWO Tier I teams - the Fuch Mizrachi Mayhem and the Flatbush Falcons - and played YULA and SAR down to the wire in both games.

Mazel tov to our tournament team captains Rena Wogan, Sara Weinstein, and Serena Cooper, who really led the team through the tournament on and off the court!! Way to go girls!!

Mrs. Eaves's third graders worked in learning stations to practice their writing, reading, and spelling skills. They sorted their spelling words according to spelling patterns, pasted story events in sequence, and wrote opinion paragraphs in response to "Would you rather...?" prompts. Then, they color coded their writing to be sure that they included a topic sentence, at least three reasons, and a concluding sentence.

Yesterday Morah Katie Lichter led a special tashlich workshop with the ECE children. She started out by teaching the children a song about tashlich called "Skip to the Lake for Tashlich". Afterwards the children broke up into groups to do different tashlich themed activities in the ECE classrooms. One group made a tashlich snack with blue jello and gummy fish. Another group made a tashlich mural with different art materials and went fishing with numbers. The third group colored tashlich pictures, played with fish themed play dough cutters, and assembled a fish in the sea puzzle. The students had a great time learning about this special mitzvah! Thank you Morah Katie!

Today our ECE students had a visit from a beekeeper, Mr. Rick Stone. Mr. Rick has a bee farm and came to talk about his job as a beekeeper. He showed the students all of the tools he uses and taught them some important safety tips. The children looked at different honeycombs from the bee farm and even got to touch the beeswax with one finger. Mr. Rick showed them two candles made from his beeswax that his wife had made! At the end of the presentation each child received a bottle of local honey from Mr. Rick's honey farm.

Today we memorialize them and as Jews, we are grateful for the freedoms afforded to us by this great country, which we must never take for granted.

Today our fifth through eighth grade girls kicked off their Big Sister/Little Sister program by exchanging gifts and some icebreaker activities! Big Sister/Little Sister is a program that facilitates friendship and mentoring between the older and younger girls. Research has shown that when students are engaged in assisting and connecting with others in a concrete way there is less bullying and social challenges. This year's program promises to be our best yet!

This week Mrs. Eaves did a fun introductory teamwork lesson with her third and fifth graders. The students worked in teams to discover who could build the tallest cup tower by using a rubber band and string- no hands allowed. After the activity, students reflected on how they worked well together and what they might do differently next time. Students all agreed that they were respectful to the other team members and listened to each other. They also discovered that if one person let go of the string, it made more work for the others.
