STUDENTS, READ THIS ENTIRE POST TO FIND A CASH PRIZE... First and foremost, I hope all of you and your loved ones are well or at least on the road to recovery. If the events of this pandemic have taught me nothing else, they’ve definitely shown me the value of time. I did not imagine at the start of the year that we would end the year in the way that we have - that our time would be cut so short. It’s truly crazy and in some ways, saddening. But the beautiful thing about sorrow is that it can only be experienced if you’ve also experienced joy. You can only be sad when someone is gone if you were once happy that they were there; you can only be bummed that you missed something if it brought you excitement in the first place. They go hand in hand. Our job then is to choose which one we’ll focus on. There’s so much to be sad or anxious about these days - then again, there always was. The virus has killed thousands in our country; brothers and sisters that look like us nationwide are harassed and killed by bad cops and white supremacists regularly; our country’s leadership is careless and erratic. But in all of these things, we must choose joy, and allow it to inspire our actions - allow joy to inspire the high quality time we spend with our loved ones during quarantine; allow joy to inspire the unity and strategy necessary to combat injustice; allow joy to inspire hope that our nation, despite it’s leadership, will endure. It is with great joy that I reflect on the time I’ve had with each of you. And through this reflection, I realize that teaching you has been the most fulfilling thing I’ve ever done in my professional life - perhaps the most fulfilling thing I’ll ever do. And for the rest of my professional life, if I find work that’s even a tenth as important as teaching you all, I will have found an incredible thing. I love you all. It was a joy to be your teacher, and I am truly grateful that you all were my students. Hotep. - Mr. Johnson (Sorry I tricked you 😜)

January 26, 2020 Statement on the Passing of Basketball Legend Kobe Bryant On behalf of the coaching staff, players, and community at Bluff City High School, we are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of basketball legend Kobe Bryant on Sunday, January 26, 2020. Widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time, Kobe Bryant was both an inspiration and positive role model to our youth. His life served an example of how talent and hard work can propel youth to achieve unparalleled success. Kobe Bryant’s life and achievements will continue to be embodied in the work that our Athletic Department here at Bluff City High School instills upon our youth. We will continue to encourage our youth that anything is possible, with successful athletes like Kobe Bryant as an example of the value of an athletics curriculum. While we will continue to train and educate our youth, we are proud to have the life of athletes such as Kobe Bryant’s to embody what the rewards of positive hard work look like. Our family at Bluff City High School Basketball Program sends our deepest sympathies to the Bryant family and to Kobe’s fans during this time.
