Giving back never goes out of style. 💈❤️

Our Barbering students were honored to serve the community at the Annual Back-to-School Summit hosted by Brown Missionary Baptist Church in partnership with the Psi Mu Mu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. By providing free haircuts, our students helped local students head into the new school year looking and feeling their best.

We're incredibly proud of our students for using the skills they've developed at TCAT Memphis to make a meaningful impact beyond the classroom. Thank you to Brown Missionary Baptist Church and the Psi Mu Mu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. for allowing us to be part of this wonderful community event. We love seeing workforce training, service, and community come together!

Success stories like these are what workforce education is all about. We are incredibly proud of Amelia and MacKenzie for their dedication and perseverance as they prepare to graduate from TCAT Memphis's Practical Nursing program. Thank you to MMDC's Career Launch Academy for helping them build a strong foundation and inspiring them to pursue careers in healthcare. We can't wait to see the impact these future nurses will make in our community. Congratulations, Amelia and MacKenzie!

From Career Launch Academy to Practical Nursing Graduates!!

In 2023, at just 17 years old, Amelia Henderson and MacKenzie Thompson entered MMDC’s Career Launch Academy with dreams of becoming registered nurses.

Both were students at Central High School. Both began in the program’s CNA pathway. And although their journeys after the program did not look exactly the same, both continued moving toward careers in healthcare.

Today, Amelia and MacKenzie are enrolled in the practical nursing program at TCAT Memphis and are preparing to graduate next month.

Hire Local 901 originally began by helping adults connect to healthcare training and employment. But MMDC recognized that young people also needed an earlier on-ramp into healthcare careers. Career Launch Academy was created to help students explore the field, gain foundational experience and begin building a pathway forward.

Amelia and MacKenzie’s story shows why that early access matters. Career journeys are not always linear, but the right starting point can continue opening doors years later.

We are proud of these two future nurses and grateful to TCAT Memphis for helping them take the next step toward their goal of becoming registered nurses.

Last week, TCAT Memphis was proud to participate in the 2026 International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (ICHRIE) Annual Conference, where President Dr. Gwen Sutton, Dr. Radesh Palakurthi, and Marcus Cox presented during Panel #13: Creating a Hospitality Talent Pipeline: Bridging the Gap Between High Schools and the Industry Through Curricular Innovation.

The presentation highlighted the power of collaboration between education and industry to strengthen workforce development, expand career pathways, and prepare students for success in the hospitality sector.

At TCAT Memphis, we remain committed to developing innovative programs and meaningful partnerships that equip students with the skills needed to meet today’s workforce demands. We are honored to have shared our work with colleagues from across the country and to contribute to conversations that are shaping the future of hospitality education.

TCAT Memphis is proud to announce plans for our new Millington Campus, a transformative workforce development project located on more than 30 acres along Veterans Parkway near the Millington-Memphis Airport.

The new campus will become the future home of our Aviation Maintenance Technology and Avionics programs, providing expanded opportunities for student success, industry partnerships, dual enrollment, and workforce training. Designed with future growth in mind, the campus will help meet the evolving needs of employers while creating additional pathways to high-demand careers throughout the Mid-South.

"This project represents an investment in the future of our students, our workforce, and our communities," said Dr. Gwen Sutton, President of TCAT Memphis.

We were honored to have our president, Dr. Gwen Sutton, serve as the keynote speaker for the Lakeland Chamber May Membership Meeting. Her presentation, “Technical Education: Fueling Workforce and Economic Growth,” highlighted the critical impact technical education has on workforce readiness, economic development, and building strong industry partnerships within our communities.

Members of the TCAT administrative team were proud to attend in support as we continue our mission of preparing a skilled workforce for the needs of our local communities and employers.

Tennessee College of Applied Technology Memphis, located at 550 Alabama Ave. Memphis, TN 38105, is applying for reaffirmation of accreditation with the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education. The visit will be held July 27th through July 30th.
