A huge thank you to Carnival Memphis and the Boll Weevils for bringing a dance party to Libertas to kick off our first week of summer camp. ☀️ 💦 Our Bison had a blast, and it was the perfect way to start the summer. We’re grateful to our supporters who show up and make these moments possible!

A huge thank you to our partners The University of Tennessee Health Science Center for spending time with our Bison at summer camp! ☀️

Their insight on safety and nutrition is something our students will carry with them long after the summer ends. We're so grateful for the partnership!

The City is proposing to increase its share of PreK funding to cover what the County cut last month. When you spoke up at the end of the school year, we restored part of the County's funding cut, but this proposal would more fully fund PreK across Memphis.

There are two opportunities for advocates to show their support on June 9th. The first is the Memphis City Council Committee Meeting at 12:45 PM at 125 North Main Street, Memphis, TN 38103 (5th Floor). The second is the Memphis City Council Regular Meeting at 4:00 PM at 125 North Main Street, Memphis, TN 38103 (Lobby Floor).

Your voice made a difference before, and it can make a difference again. Whether you attend one meeting or both, your presence helps show our city leaders that Memphis families believe every child deserves access to high-quality PreK.

Free parking is available at the Mud Island Garage (125 North Front St.) on City Council Tuesdays.

If you would like to speak at either meeting, please email Jaime Nichols at [email protected]. We would love to help you prepare and make sure your voice is heard!

Our final day of Phillis Wheatley featured our lower school and primary classes. Our youngest Bison beautifully shared poetry, filling our families and staff with so much pride. 🌱

Continuing with our end-of-year Phillis Wheatley events, we spotlight our middle school students' awards assembly, poetry recitation, and student exhibitions.

Students performed, were honored for how they demonstrated wonder, work, and love within their school community, and student exhibitions featured nursing, Italy, Medieval knights, woodworking, athletics, carnivorous plants, and so much more. 🌱

Every year, Libertas closes with our Phillis Wheatley Events. Exhibitions, awards, and a 5th Grade Stepping Up ceremony, all woven together with poetry recitations from our students honoring some of our great literary heroes.

Over the next few posts, we're sharing the whole celebration, beginning with our 5th graders.

Montessori understands childhood as a series of planes of development. Our 5th graders are leaving the second plane, years spent building curiosity, moral imagination, and a sense of community. Now they enter the third: the work of forming an identity, of finding their place in the world and their purpose within it.

They are stepping up to middle school, carrying with them the wonder, the work, and the love of their teachers and guides, their peers, their families, and their entire Bison community. ✨🎓

Libertas was honored to welcome Memphis Shelby County Schools board chairperson Natalie McKinney for a tour this week.

Mrs. McKinney interacted extensively with our students, including dress rehearsals of our upper elementary research exhibition projects.

She was accompanied on the tour by several parents, who talked about how our school welcomes and supports their children's diverse learning needs. A longtime Memphis leader, she also saw old friends along the way.

Board Chair McKinney concluded that she was impressed with our innovation and community focus, and reiterated her longstanding view that good charter schools like Libertas are a valued part of the district's portfolio of quality public school choices.
