This week’s featured community is the Ruby Bridges Community, a Primary (Pre-K and Kindergarten) classroom guided and taught by Mrs. Nunez and Ms. Daniels. Learn more about each of them and the community’s namesake below:

🍎 Meet Lead Teacher, Mrs. Nunez

Before becoming a Montessorian, Mrs. Nunez spent years in traditional public schools until her own children’s Montessori experience gave her an unmistakable “tug” — she eventually found her way to Libertas, where she knew she was home. She loves seeing the world through her students’ eyes and helping each one grow toward a love of learning and purpose. Outside of school, she enjoys gardening, including a vegetable bed she and her daughter built together this summer.

🍎 Meet Assistant Teacher, Ms. Daniels

Ms. Daniels was drawn to Montessori education for its focus on the whole child, giving students room to learn at their own pace and build confidence and independence. She loves watching those moments when something finally clicks for her students, and hopes they carry confidence, kindness, and a love of learning with them. Outside of school, she’s the founder of Sistahs Who Read book club and enjoys reading, baking, and time with her daughter.

🏫 Community Namesake — Ruby Bridges

In 1960, at just six years old, Ruby Bridges became the first African American child to integrate an all-white elementary school in the South, walking into William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans escorted by federal marshals. She attended class largely alone that first year after white parents withdrew their children in protest, yet her courage helped pave the way for school integration nationwide. She remains an enduring symbol of bravery in the fight for educational equality.

Bring your children and experience reading and math the way they do. Stop by for 20-30 minutes between 3:30-5:30 pm or stay the full 2 hours. All participants will receive a free book! 📚

Happy birthday to Maria Montessori! 🌱

Born August 31, 1870, Montessori changed how the world sees children - not as empty vessels to fill, but as capable, curious individuals deserving of respect and independence. Her insight guides us every day at Libertas.
