Mark your calendar! The Schools of Perea presents, A Journey Through African American History. This one time performance takes place on March 10, 2022 at 5:00pm. Get ready for an unforgettable experience! We hope to see you!
Keep calm! It’s Hat Day??
During the great month of March, we would like to celebrate these magnificent women that are not only dedicated social workers, but are also serving their communities in other capacities! They are mothers, community leaders, wives, business owners, artists, and scholars! Their advice is always real and always spoken from a place of love. They are authentically themselves, and their multifaceted skill set makes Perea Elementary a unique place to be!
It’s Wacky Wednesday!
Do you like green eggs and ham?
The Character Word of the Month is Forgiveness. Forgiveness simply means you're letting go of feelings of resentment and vengeance. You're refocusing your thoughts on positive emotions; perhaps even feelings of understanding, empathy, and compassion toward the person who hurt you. This month, we would like to challenge you and your family to practice forgiveness towards yourself and others!
Our Black History spotlight is the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). The NAACP is a civil rights organization in the United States, formed in 1909 as an in*******al endeavor to advance justice for African Americans by a group including W. E. B. Du Bois, Mary White Ovington, Moorfield Storey and Ida B. Wells. This organization is primarily a volunteer based, and its strength derives from its roots in local communities. As the nation’s largest and oldest grassroots civil rights organization, the primary focus of the NAACP continues to be the protection and enhancement of the civil rights of African Americans.
The NAACP was instrumental in securing the passage of all civil rights legislation in this century and remains committed to its full implementation. It does this by utilizing the legislative and judicial processes to ensure equity and fairness in such areas as housing, employment, voting, political representation, education, administration of justice, health, etc.
Today’s Black History Spotlight is the The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, and the purpose of the march was to advocate for the civil and economic rights of African Americans. Some 250,000 people gathered in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. It was also during this occasion that Martin Luther King Jr.’s delivered his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech.
Today our Black History Spotlight is the Little Rock Nine. In 1957, a group of nine African American students enrolled in Little Rock Central High School. Their enrollment was followed by the Little Rock Crisis, in which the students were initially prevented from entering the racially segregated school by Orval Faubus, the Governor of Arkansas.
What does Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, and Louis Armstrong all have in common? If you guessed that they are great African American Jazz musicians then you are absolutely correct! Our next Spotlight is the letter J for Jazz and Jazz musician that provided us with ageless music to hear!
Our Black History Spotlight recognizes black inventors! Madam C. J. Walker! Annie Malone! Jan Ernst Matzeliger! These names mentioned are just a few inventors that used that creativity and genius to make our daily lives easier!
Today’s Black History spotlight is the Harlem Renaissance. This movement was an intellectual and cultural revival of African American music, dance, art, fashion, literature, theater, politics and scholarship centered in Harlem, Manhattan, New York City, spanning the 1920s and 1930s.

Our PANTHERIFIC moment in black history salutes Ray Charles! Ray Charles Robinson Sr. was an American singer, songwriter, pianist and alto saxophonist. He is regarded as one of the most iconic and influential singers in history, and was often referred to by contemporaries as "The Genius". Charles was blinded during childhood, possibly due to glaucoma.

Egypt from Ms. Dorothy’s class got into FULL character to enlighten his friends about Mr. Charles! Way to go Egypt!

Teaching model spotlight: Academic Intelligence ✨

We believe that students must be active participants in their learning and construct meaning for themselves. We do not ascribe to a one-size-fits-all model of education because we appreciate that every student comes to us with individual learning needs and styles.

Our curricula and instructional methods combine structure with student choice and couples high expectations with differentiation.

💜🐾💛

MSCS school uses horses to help bring education to life

Perea is thrilled to partner with Southern Reins Center for Equine Therapy to bring equine therapy teaching methods to our elementary and pre schoolers. Forty of our students are participating in their unique and impactful TEACH (Therapy and Education Activities for Children with Horses) Program, which uses equine learning to improve students' academic performances and contribute to their social and emotional learning. ABC Local24 visited our campus this week to capture footage of one of our classes – check it out below!

MSCS school uses horses to help bring education to life "Anyway that we can help jumpstart their education and their love of learning is a win," said Courtney Smith.
