It's Mission Monday again! This time around we are spotlighting the work of our amazing community partners, like Black Boys Empowered, who jumped at the chance to provide over 200 warm hats to Promise Academy Spring Hill students.

Mr. Dudley answered back in excitement, so I brainstormed on the immediate needs of my students and decided they need hats. After deciding how the partnership could be brokered we had a meeting, and Mr. Dudley already had donors in mind to help the students at Promise Academy Spring Hill. We’re proud to have added three new Pre-K operators for the 2020-2021 academic year: Perea Preschool, Promise Academy Spring Hill, and University of Memphis Barbara K. Lipman Early Learning and Research Center. These operators will give families and children five additional Pre-K classroom options. In total, First 8 Memphis is providing oversight and funding this year to approximately 75 Shelby County Pre-K classrooms, which includes 13 operators.

I have been to many different schools, and I can honestly say I have NEVER seen the principal teach any type of class to the students at all. I’ve only seen them observe the students being taught. Mrs. Kimbra McBride taught math class yesterday to the 5th graders and I was able to witness how compassionate and calm she is as an educator to our babies. She is truly a principal beyond her title.
