Highland Oaks Elementary Families,

We want to inform you that the school received a report of individuals with weapons near the premises shortly before dismissal. In response, we initiated a soft lockdown while law enforcement conducted a thorough search of the surrounding area.

We are pleased to report that the lockdown has been lifted, and all students and staff are safe. Thank you for your understanding and support during this situation.

HES is ready to go for GOLD as we embark on the first day of school! The first day of school was a GREAT SUCCESS and we can't wait to continue our journey with our OWLS as we strive for GOLD.

As we prepare for the first day of school with our Owls and get ready to go for GOLD, we would like to give a few reminders!

1. The first day of school is tomorrow, August 5th for students in grades 1st - 5th!
2. Students in PreK and Kindergarten will stagger in throughout the week.
3. School starts at 8:00 a.m.
4. We ask you to not drop your child off prior to 8:00 a.m. as there is no adult supervision before 8:00 a.m.
5. Please adhere to the drop off signs during the car rider line.
6. We ask the students to be ready (backpacks on, lunch box in hand, etc.) to exit the cars as soon as you arrive to the sidewalk.
7. We are ready to go for the GOLD and hope you’re ready too!

Registration for the 2024-2025 school year is taking place. You can email the required documents to [email protected] or you can complete everything online through your PowerSchool portal. If you email your child's documents make sure they are scanned clearly on a dark background. When emailing documents, include your child’s name, date of birth, and incoming grade level in the subject line.

Goodbye Kindergarten, Hello 1st Grade! Kindergarten students and parents had a great time during the Kindergarten parade. Students and parents celebrated the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new one!! Congratulations Kindergarteners, we know you will do amazing things next year in 1st Grade!!

Highland Oaks Elementary School Field Day is TOMORROW!!! Students who purchased a t-shirt will receive their shirts tomorrow morning! This is a student only event! Parents, please have your child to school on time so they can partake in the festivities! Concessions will be sold and the flyer is attached with the items being sold! Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6th - May 10th! During this week, show your appreciation to your child’s teacher as well as the Highland Oaks Staff who work behind the scenes to ensure your child’s school days are successful, safe, and comfortable. Show your appreciation by showering them with tokens of gratitude for the HEARTwork they do each and everyday!

HES Owls, Tyler Sibley, London Stewart, and Rylen Vallerio, represented us well during the District 4 VIP tour with Superintendent Dr. Marie N. Feagins! It's TCAP TIME!!! PLAYTIME IS OVER, IT'S THE BIG LEAGUES!! HES is ready to take on the TCAP!!

TCAP will begin TOMORROW, April 16th, and goes until Friday, April 26th!

Your child is coming home with a TOP SECRET manilla envelope today, April 15th. Students have been instructed not to open/ read the contents of this folder as it is a surprise for them. As part of our efforts to motivate students during TNReady (TCAP) testing, we kindly ask that you sit and read a letter from your child's teacher with them. Our goal is to motivate and inspire. We also ask that you find ways to motivate your child daily. You will be amazed how far an early morning happy will go with our students!

Parents help us by following these simple tips with your child as we embark on the TCAP journey!

TCAP TIPS:
1. Get a good night's rest every night!
2. Eat a good breakfast every morning!
3. Get to School at 8:00 a.m. each day! (Don't want to be tardy for the TCAP)
4. Remember to do your best and go into the test with CONFIDENCE! Remember you got this!!
5. STAY FOCUSED!!
6. Most importantly, no matter the score, you are always LOVED!!

PRE-K registration is officially open! Join us on Saturday, April 20th to secure a spot for your little one and give them the perfect start to their educational journey. Don't miss out on this opportunity!

Today, April 11th, free hair cuts will be given to our young men from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm in the gymnasium! A parent/guardian must be present with the student! Make sure you bring them out for this great opportunity!!

Highland Oaks Book Fair is off to a great start! The Book Fair runs from February 20th - February 23rd. Here is the link to set up your child’s e-wallet as well as to make online purchases.
