Community school is a strategy for organizing school and community resources around student success. Community Schools coordinators are strategically placed in area schools to collaborate with school based staff, community stakeholders, and parents to alleviate none academic barriers for students. Memphis- Shelby County Schools is currently spearheading the Midsouth's whole- child initiative. Ther

e are currently 8 community schools: Bell Forest Elementary, Larose Elementary, Dunbar Elementary, Northaven Elementary, Treadwell Elementary, Woodstock Middle, Treadwell Middle, Hamilton and Manassas High School.

We had a Health and Wellness Crash Course presented by Dr. Gina Williams- United
Healthcare and Dr. Michelle Kitson- President of the Bluff City Medical Society and Methodist Medical Group - Eastmoreland
Internal Medicine
They provided so much information on signs to look for, leading causes, monthly self-checks, and treatment options.
They also provided information on prevention:
-Keeping a healthy weight
-Staying physically active
-Eating a plant-based diet
-No Smoking
Kristy Subber, a parent of BTW is a survivor who shared her story.
