We didn’t let a little area-wide power outage stop the fun! When the lights went off, our coaches turned on the black lights! Boys had a great time playing glow-in-the-dark nine square and Gaga ball with a glow-in-the-dark ball during our surprise black out PE!

PDS isn’t ready for Christmas without our red bows! The boys performed a wonderful Christmas Pageant, “Crazy ‘bout Christmas” this evening. Full of song, dance, and special appearances, this year’s pageant kept us guessing, and it certainly put everyone in the Christmas mood! Our boys have been hard at work, and we are so proud of them!

The Art to Grow program from the Dixon Gallery & Gardens visited the PDS art classes last week! Some boys learned about their current exhibition on Scientific Illustrations, and then they played a game and illustrated their own new discovery! Other classes learned about the gallery’s permanent porcelain collection. They learned interesting facts and explored how it was made and created their own cup and saucer. It was a fun day in the art room!

Sixth Graders Miles Carlisle, Anderson Stone, Joah Vannucci, and Yale Williams represented PDS and the country of Ukraine at the Middle School Model UN Conference on December 6 at City Hall. In preparation for this conference, this team researched issues Ukrainians face and wrote a resolution advocating for aid to rebuild Ukraine's war-torn energy infrastructure. The team defended their resolutions in front of a committee consisting of seventh and eighth graders from other local schools. While they were among the youngest participants, they performed exceedingly well! Congratulations to Anderson Stone for also being named an Outstanding Delegate at the conference!

Third Grade boys are at it again with donating toys to the Forrest Spence toy drive! They earned money by helping out around the house and were able to buy toys to help families who will have to spend the holidays in the hospital. This is a one example of what it looks like to be a Servant Leader in our community. Way to go, boys!

Yesterday, 1st Grade filled blessing bags! These bags will live in their cars until they encounter someone who needs the supplies in the bag. Each bag also includes a Happygram with a Bible verse. Boys are practicing being Servant Leaders by noticing and caring for those in need this holiday season!

Award-winning author and illustrator, Greg Pizzoli, visited our JK-4th Grade boys and shared wonderful stories and helpful drawing tips with them. Well known for his picture books The Watermelon Seed, The Book Hog, The Lucky Duck, and other favorites, Mr. Pizzoli inspired PDS boys with his love of drawing, sense of humor, and gift for storytelling. What a delight it was to have him on our campus! Thank you, Mr. Pizzoli, for spending time at PDS!

Congratulations to the 2024 Spelling Bee winner, 5th Grader Liam Shappley! After several intense rounds, Liam correctly spelled “entourage” to win the Bee. We are proud of all our contestants. They displayed great spelling prowess and sportsmanship this morning!

A hallmark of PDS is its commitment to lifelong learning. Last week, PDS faculty members and administrators spent two days learning alongside other Tennessee Independent School educators, and several shared their expertise as presenters at the TAIS Annual Conference at Battle Ground Academy. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with other educators in our state and continue to grow as professionals!

Sixth Grade had an amazing time visiting the Wilson Air Center last Wednesday! Boys got to observe video-flying demonstrations, participate in some Navy training exercises, and see some Navy and Coast Guard aircraft. They met pilots and crew members and got to go inside several of the planes. It was an awesome experience for them to learn more about aviation and our military!
