Presbyterian Day School

Presbyterian Day School Presbyterian Day School (PDS) is a private, Christian preschool and elementary school serving boys from 2-years-old through 6th grade.

Founded in 1949, PDS serves approximately 500 boys in grades YK-6th grades. With our mission of striving to glorify God by developing boys in wisdom and stature and favor with God and man, we take a holistic approach to education, nurturing the heart, soul, mind and body of each boy. Our academic program centers on the development of critical and creative thinking skills. We train our boys to rese

arch, analyze, synthesize, and connect ideas and subjects, as well as to develop the important skills of collaboration and teaming. With 80% of our teachers having studied at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, our teachers are committed to aligning teaching and learning with the opportunities and challenges that the 21st century presents. As a faculty and staff, we deeply engage the question of what it means to be well educated in the dynamic global community of the 21st century.

Join us for a special parent event with Heidi Tringali, pediatric occupational therapist, speaker and author of The Readied Child: Parenting Tools for Learning and Life Readiness. With more than 30 years of experience working with children and families, Heidi will help parents look beyond early achievement to better understand the physical, emotional and developmental foundations children need to become confident, capable and resilient learners. We hope you’ll join us on September 15th at 8:30am for this meaningful conversation! ❤️💙

Our boys are beginning their journey through the 7 Virtues of Manhood with Virtue #1: True Friend. Each month, we introduce a new virtue over breakfast and spend time digging deeper through scripture, casual and intentional conversations and daily challenges that encourage our boys to put that virtue into action.
Throughout the month of September, our Chapel lessons will help our boys understand what it looks like to be a True Friend who demonstrates compassion, kindness, encouragement, generosity, integrity, empathy and loyalty. Sign up today for Friday's virtue breakfast. “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” John 15:12

Today in EDGE, our 1st graders read Iggy Peck, Architect by , the story of a young builder who uses creativity and problem-solving to help his class when a footbridge collapses. Then, our boys became architects themselves!
Using LEGOs, they designed and built footbridges across the “water." At PDS, we know boys thrive when they can create, experiment and solve problems while using their hands. ❤️💙

Our Junior Kindergarten boys are discovering the superpowers of vowels! This week, they learned that vowels can make two sounds and connected the lesson to something especially meaningful: their own names. Because boys often thrive when learning is active, visual and personally relevant, they graphed whether their names contained the letter E and shared whether it was an uppercase E or lowercase e. A meaningful lesson in phonics, math and the names that make each boy unique! 🔤📊💙

🧠In Science this year our 3rd graders will explore systems and how different parts work together, including one of the most fascinating systems of all: the human body.
To kick off the year and get their brains working, the boys took on a challenge of sequence and memory. Their task? Reveal the numbers 1–9 in order while turning over only two cards at a time, always starting with #1.
It may sound simple, but success required focus and the ability to think under pressure. A fun way to sharpen their minds and get ready for a year of hands-on science! ❤️💙

For more than 30 years, the PDS Birthday Book Club has given families a special way to honor their boys while helping grow our library. Thanks to the generosity of PDS families, thousands of books have been added to our shelves through this beloved program!
With a minimum donation of $25, your son can become a Birthday Book Club member and help add new books for PDS boys to enjoy for years to come. Celebrate his special day while sharing the gift of reading! ❤️💙📚. Visit pdsmemphis.org to learn more.

Boys love to build, and there’s a lot of learning happening while they do it! 🧱 Hands-on challenges give boys the opportunity to take concepts off the page and put them into action. As they designed marble runs and built towers, our boys had to plan, predict, measure, test and adjust their designs to figure out what worked and what didn’t.
Building naturally brings math, science and problem-solving together while encouraging creativity. When a tower falls or a marble doesn’t quite make it to the end, it’s back to the drawing board to rebuild and try again. ❤️💙
