Congrats to faculty members on being awarded a 5-year, $1.2M grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for their “From High School to Health Care: Lab and Data Science Pathways for Success" program. This project will educate rural Tennessee high school students about careers in clinical laboratory science and public health information technology. This project is funded by a Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA) from the National Institutes of General Medical Sciences at the NIH.

Meet University of Tennessee Health Science Center alum, JoEtta. As a Health Informatics Specialist Registered Nurse, JoEtta is focused on improving the efficiency and accuracy of clinical documentation for healthcare providers at the hospital where she works. According to JoEtta, the UTHSC MHIIM program "opened my mind up to understanding all the possibilities to improve healthcare with the use of artificial intelligence, machine learning and simulation. This program allowed me to align my desire for IT and healthcare under one umbrella through the use of technology in healthcare."

Congratulations to University of Tennessee Health Science Center DDHS faulty member Sajeesh Kumar PhD, who has been named a 2022 Fellow of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA)! FAMIA recognizes applied informatics professionals who directly impact and improve health care, biomedical research, public health and personal health through the practice of informatics. Dr. Kumar will be formally inducted at the AMIA 2022 Clinical Informatics Conference this month.
