Very useful!
Let Children Learn by Doing!
Whether with a toddler or a teenager, there’s limited benefit when adults step in and complete tasks or work for children, especially to achieve a desired outcome.
Avoid re-arranging their work or directing what they do so it looks like what an adults likes to see.
This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be present to guide and support children on their learning journeys—this is a critical role for adults! However, stepping in and "doing for" a child can have unintended consequences:
🌱 It robs them of confidence, leaving them feeling like their efforts aren’t good enough.
🧠 It rewires their brain from learning how to learn, to focusing only on what to learn.
💡 It reduces critical and creative thinking—skills that thrive only when children think and act independently.
💪 It limits their ability to face, make, and recover from mistakes, building resilience.
🤔 It creates a false sense of dependency, where they expect others to solve their challenges, leaving them unprepared for future setbacks.
⭐ It shifts motivation from intrinsic (pride in their effort)
