Friends and family; Merry Christmas from my family 👪 to yours. Have a blessed day.

Evusheld 10/14/2022

We have Evusheld available at PAIN-C for individuals who are eligible. We are one of the few medical facilities in Memphis, TN, and the surrounding areas that maintain the product in the clinic. We are presently being called upon by many major cancer and transplant facilities in our area to vaccinate cancer patients, organ transplant patients, and immunocompromised patients with Evusheld. Below is an excellent video presentation that lays out the purpose and usage of Evusheld.

________________________________________________________
Evusheld is authorized for adult and pediatric individuals (12 years of age and older weighing at least 40 kg) who are not currently infected or recently exposed to SARS-CoV-2 and have moderate to severe immune compromise or for whom vaccination with any available COVID-19 vaccine is not recommended due to a history of severe adverse reaction (e.g., severe allergic reaction) to a COVID-19 vaccine(s) and/or COVID-19 vaccine component(s). When the supply of Evusheld is limited, the NIH COVID-19 Treatment Guidelines Panel has outlined recommendations for priority of use within the eligible population.

1. Several factors affect the selection of the best treatment option for a specific patient.

2. Older adults and people who have underlying medical conditions are at increased risk of severe COVID-19.

3. Individuals with a decreased likelihood of an adequate immune response to vaccination due to a moderate to severe immunocompromising condition or the receipt of immunosuppressive medications (steroids etc..).

Evusheld protects those who are not expected to mount an adequate immune response following vaccination. This video featuring Michael Anderson, MD, MBA, senior advisor at ASPR, discusses the use of Evusheld, a long-acting monoclonal antibody combination for use in pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) of COVID‑19.

Be careful, Be safe, Be well; and make sure you keep your COVID-19 vaccinations up to date.

NOVAVAX COVID-19 Vaccine is now available at PAIN-C.
Novavax is the first COVID-19 protein subunit vaccine that the CDC has recommended for use in the United States.

1. Protein subunit vaccines contain harmless pieces (proteins) of the COVID-19 virus alongside another ingredient called an adjuvant that helps the immune system respond to the virus in the future if exposed.

2. NOVAVAX is a COVID-19 vaccine made along the more traditional route like the hepatitis B and acellular pertussis vaccines. This "is not an mRNA vaccine like the Moderna, Pfizer, and/or J & J".

3. It is hoped that more individuals will be more comfortable receiving a non-mRNA vaccine and this will increase the number of individuals fully vaccinated within the United States.

4. It is a 2 shot series for individuals 18 years and older. The second shot of Novavax is given between three and eight weeks from the first injection of Novavax to complete the series.

Moving Forward For Public Health.

All of the services mentioned are “FREE” to the public who qualify. This is not an advertisement nor is it meant to virus shame anyone. It is simply information that I am qualified to give as a licensed medical care provider.

The Physician Associate Interdisciplinary Clinic (PAIN-C) has shifted focus to public health with an enfaces on COVID-19 detection and treatment. We currently offer the three most prominent vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna, Janssen (J & J)) within the clinic and we are now adding new services.

We now also offer COVID-19 monoclonal antibody therapy (Anti-SARS-CoV-2 Monoclonal Antibodies). This therapy (see video) effectively cuts off any further infection of cells once given and gives the body time to recover. The therapy is not for hospital patients nor patients with hypoxemia (low blood Oxygen levels) but for individuals who have a positive COVID-19 test (Rapid or PCR) and whose symptoms began no more than ten days from the time that present for treatment. The focus is on getting the therapy in that timeframe (within 10 days of symptoms starting and a positive COVID-19 test) because the therapy has been found to be most efficacious if given within said timeframe.

We also have the Pfizer vaccine for 5 to 11-year-olds. The Pfizer vaccine was recently approved per emergency use authorization (EUA) for 5 to 11-year-olds. It is a different formulation adapted to the metabolism for children within this age group. This adds an additional weapon on getting control of the COVID-19 virus with the extra added effect of protecting our children from infection.

Mid-Southerners are getting mixed signals on how they should handle the Delta surge 07/30/2021

Hey guys:

By now everyone should know that I am "all in" on the COVID-19 vaccination drive. The sooner we can get a majority of individuals vaccinated in the United States with one of the COVID-19 vaccines the sooner we will be able to get it under control. We can diversify and start looking at new ways to eradicate it completely from American soil.

I had a visit with Ms. Caitlin McCarthy from Local (ABC) 24 News (Memphis) yesterday, to discuss the ongoing issues preventing more United States citizens from being vaccinated with one of the COVID-19 vaccines.

I enjoyed the discussion and I hope that the information shared will get people on the fence committed to get the injections as well as motivate as many Americans as possible to get vaccinated with one of the COVID-19 vaccines. Frankly, the COVID-19 vaccines are the best option we have right now to get the COVID-19 virus under control and stop United States citizens from needlessly dying.

The video below captures important points about combating the COVID-19 virus. Thanks, Caitlin McCarthy, and thanks Local News 24 (MEMPHIS).

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — More than 400 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Shelby County Thursday. It's the biggest surge the county has had since February.

However, case surges are happening across the Mid-South and the different directions from politicians and health leaders have many wondering how we're going to get through this.

At the Neshoba County Fair Thursday, Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves called the CDC's mask recommendation for fully vaccinated people "foolish."

"Tuesday's change in the CDC mask guidance is foolish, and it is harmful," Reeves said. "It reeks of political panic, so as to appear that they are in control. It has nothing, let me say that again: It has nothing to do with rational science."

His claim the recommendation has nothing to do with "rational science" has doctors, like Dr. Maurice Skillern, reiterating they do, in fact, work.

"It actually shows a lack of knowledge about the mask," Skillern said. "We use masks when we do surgery. We know they work."

Reeves has said he will not issue a statewide mask mandate for anyone including schools, even with the growing number of children contracting and dying from the virus.

In Arkansas, Governor Asa Hutchinson wants to allow mask mandates in schools. He announced Thursday he's calling for a special session to amend a new law banning mask mandates across the state.

"This is not a debate about mask mandates for those that can make their own decisions and have the means to get vaccinated," Hutchinson said. "This is a discussion about the school environment where schools can make decisions to add to the public health for their own school environment and the children they have a responsibility to protect."

Skillern said this pandemic is about public health, not politics. He added that the first step is getting people vaccinated at a mass vaccine site or their primary care doctor.

"I’m talking right now not as a Republican, not as a Democrat but as an American citizen who has certain knowledge and training," Skillern said.

While the vaccine is not mandatory, Skillern said it's our only solution to ending this.

"People have the freedom to get or not get the vaccine and that’s fine," Skillern said. "The freedom they don’t have is the freedom to infect others."

This video was created on Friday April 23rd 2021 at Su Casa Family Ministries where I was on location giving COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine Injections. It was in a Hispanic/Latino area of Memphis where we know vaccine coverage is badly needed. I got to again practice my very broken Spanish but luckily we had volunteer interpreters to help with explaining the specifics. We also had paperwork in Spanish (the Memphis Fire Department went the extra mile to get this paperwork) and that also made the process flow smoother.

I plan on continuing to dig in with the Memphis Fire Department and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) over the next year administering covid 19 vaccines to do my part as a United States citizen by ensuring that one more qualified person is available to give the Injections to those that still need it.

At it again guys 👦. Gave COVID-19 VACCINES injections today at The Healing Center 3885 Tchulahoma Rd, Memphis, TN 38118, USA. We started at 9:00 am today and gave Injections until 6:00 pm with a steady stream of cars coming through. It was a long busy day but the people being vaccinated were all very nice and appreciative.

Again, I am proud to say I was privileged to take care of people of a wide range of cultures, beliefs and s*xual orientations. We are in this COVID-19 WAR as a team and we are stronger together than separated.

I have to give a powerful shout-out to the The Memphis Fire Department. They were given the task of getting the vaccinations done for both the City of Memphis and Shelby County and from what I have seen they are doing a great job.

For the next year, I plan to continue to volunteer for the Shelby County Health Department, The Tennessee Medical Readiness Corps, and the City of Memphis.

4 years ago I was up to my eyes with homework for the Lincoln Memorial University ((LMU) doctorate course for Physician Assistant's. I got it done but the memories still linger to the positive. I learned many ongoing beneficial things, topics, writings and how to do research.

I won't say I want to be back there but I am glad to have had the opportunity, and experience. It has proven that old axiom "Knowledge is Power" in my life. I recommend that any/all Physician Assistants out there look into attending LMU. It is a doctorate course taught by Physicians and it is a part of the MD/DO medical school.

Simply said, and my reason for advancing my medical training, is/was "to be the best at what I do".

I am up way tooo early doing school work. But as my momma use to say "you gotta get it". With this doctorate program I have been through every emotion known to man and a few that I can't talk about in the company of "gentle folk".

In life in general you can hope and dream but eventually you gotta put both hands on your dreams to pull them from happenstance to solid reality. "Drive on" or as George Bush (the younger) use to say ya gotta "Stay the Course".

I had a great time yesterday at Cane Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Memphis, TN, where I Volunteered to give Pfizer Vaccine injection for the Shelby County Health Department. I had a chance to meet some great people from all walks of life. I even ran into a Marine walking through with an OD green cover on his head and we shared a few military stories.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency was on site. We gave over 390 injections on yesterday.

It turns out that giving injection at a church is a good thing. In these places where “God” holds sway, the color of your skin, your s*xual orientation, and/or your political affiliation has no bearing on how you are perceived or treated, for God loves all the creature he has created in equal measure and all are welcome in his house 🙏🙏🙏.

I was most pleased with the wide variety of races and countries that I had the privilege of giveing injections too. They did not see me as an African-American but instead they saw me as a caring soul who was there to give help and support through this terrible ordeal (The COVID 19 Virus) we are now facing.

It also turns out that they are accounting for every injection and you have to make an appointment to get an injection at a particular site, so it is not a walk in situation as I thought. For Shelby County, TN go to this link to see when and where you can get scheduled for an injection ( https://covid19.tn.gov/covid-19-vaccines/vaccination-locations/ ).

Those individuals who received their injections on Yesterday at Cane Creek Missionary Baptist Church, are to come back to the same site on 3/20/2021 at the same time that they were scheduled for the first injection to receive their second injection.

As I mentioned before, I am still working through the process to partner with the county, state, and federal agencies to give injections at my clinic ( Physician Associate Interdisciplinary Clinic - Pain-C ) at least 2 times a week for the next year. It appears to be an arduous process and I will keep everyone posted.

Be careful, Be safe, Be well.
