🎉❤️💙 HOMECOMING WEEK AT WESTSIDE — DECADES DAY! 💙❤️🎉

Westside Middle School took a trip through the decades, and our students AND staff brought their A-GAME! 🔥 From old-school tracksuits and jerseys to bucket hats, shades, gold chains, denim, and throwback kicks, Wildcat Country understood the assignment! 😎

Homecoming is about more than the activities—it’s about building school spirit, community, relationships, and memories that make our students proud to be Wildcats. And judging by these pictures, the grown folks might have enjoyed Decades Day just as much as the babies! 😂❤️

The energy is UP, the school spirit is STRONG, and we’re just getting started!

It’s officially Homecoming season at Westside Middle School, and our students are bringing the ENERGY! 🎉

Campaign posters are on display throughout the school, campaign treats have been passed out, and our candidates have stepped up to the mic to deliver their campaign speeches. Now it’s time for the most important part—THE VOTE! 🗳️

Our students will use MVote clickers to cast their votes and help select this year’s Homecoming Court. This is more than Homecoming fun—it’s an opportunity for our babies to experience student voice, leadership, public speaking, campaigning, and the democratic process in action!

We love seeing our students get involved, support one another, and make their voices heard.

📊 DATA AS INSTRUCTIONS — NOT AN INDICTMENT!

For the first 20 days of school, Westside’s Academic and Leadership Teams did something important: we identified our REALITY. We studied the data, examined our practices, and asked the hard questions.

Now, it’s time to RESPOND.

Today, Principal Dr. LaWanda M. Clark facilitated a focused session with the Academics Leadership Team to launch Westside’s 30-Day Instructional Growth Cycle.

The message was clear: Data is not about blame. Data tells us what to do NEXT.

📈 DATA → PLAN → TEACH → MONITOR → RESPOND → GROW

Every 30 days, we will identify priority standards, analyze student mastery, deliver targeted instruction, monitor progress, reteach, and measure GROWTH.

And of course, nobody left empty-handed! ❤️🤍💙 Each participant received a “DATA OR IT DIDN’T HAPPEN!” T-shirt and a 30-Day Instructional Growth Guide created by Dr. Clark to support the work from planning to implementation.

Next up: our teachers! A soft launch of the 30-Day Instructional Growth Cycle is planned for this week as we begin building a shared understanding of how this work will live in every classroom.

We’re not asking, “Who’s to blame?”

We’re asking, “What did our babies learn? Who still needs us? And what are WE going to do next?”

At Westside, standards drive instruction, data drives decisions, and GROWTH drives our response.

🎉📚 LEARNING IS ALIVE AT WESTSIDE! 📚🎉

Who said learning can’t be FUN?! Our Wildcats were up, moving, thinking, collaborating, and fully engaged in learning this week! ❤️🤍💙🐾

⚔️ Shout-out to Ms. Holmes’ Social Studies classes! Students brought history to life through East Asian historical simulations, stepping beyond the textbook and experiencing the content in an interactive way. 🥷🏽

🔬 Shout-out to Ms. Hammond’s Science class! Students were up and out of their seats participating in a science gallery walk—observing, discussing, thinking, and demonstrating that rigorous learning doesn’t have to happen sitting behind a desk!

🚨📝 And WATCH OUT, 6th grade! Officer Reese, the Grammar Police, is officially on patrol! 😂 Armed with her walkie-talkie and ready for duty, she’s on the lookout for those punctuation errors. Commas, periods, apostrophes—you have been warned! 🚔✏️

This is what we want to see at Westside: students actively participating in their learning and teachers creating experiences that make students WANT to engage. When we combine strong instruction with movement, creativity, collaboration, and a little FUN, learning becomes memorable.

We’ve officially hit the 25-day mark of the 2026-2027 school year, and what an incredible start it has been!

From the moment our doors opened, the energy at Westside Middle School has been electric. Our recent in-service was absolutely amazing, and we were thrilled to reveal a new massage chair in the teachers’ lounge—a little extra appreciation for our hard-working team!

A huge shoutout to our exceptional staff, who continue to show up with dedication and heart, and to our incredible students for bringing such enthusiasm to every lesson. We’ve seen some truly amazing teaching and learning opportunities unfolding in our classrooms already.

We are also so grateful to have received generous donations from some amazing SiSTARS—thank you for supporting our community! It has been so heartwarming to see our community partners and Westside Alumni showing up to greet our students and support our loving parents.

To add to the excitement, our teams are off to a fantastic start—congratulations to our football and volleyball squads on their recent wins! The spirit is also running high with our cheerleaders, and both Meet the Teacher night and our Title 1 parent night were absolutely epic!

We are so proud of the culture of connection we’re building together. Here’s to a record-breaking year ahead!
