Meet The Director:

Constance Sholar- Cherry/Owner and Primary Early Childcare Practitioner- is a wife and mother. She has 16 years of experience in working with children and youth, ages 6 weeks -12 years old. She has been a lead Toddler teacher, After school teacher and a Preschool teacher, and now Early Care and Learning Owner and Director. Her passion for teaching is easygoing, repetitive and always professional.

Her training consists of TECTA (Tennessee Early Childhood Training Alliance) Personal Safety, Food Preparation, ACEs, Marketing, Business Management, CPR/AED and 1st Aid, Social Work and Nonprofit Management and many Developmental Trainings. She is currently working towards her Master’s in Early Childhood Education.

She is an honor graduate of Whitehaven High School. After working 9 years at a center, she chose to fulfill her purpose starting Creative Home Academy in 2007. She earned her degree in Social Work and Nonprofit Management in December 2009 from the University of Memphis School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy, Certification in American Humanics in December 2009 and received her Child Development Associate Certificate (CDA)in April 2010. She has also achieved accreditation from the National Association of Family Child Care in May 2011.She maintained the accreditation status for approximately 7 years. She became a TOPSTAR mentor to other family childcare providers in 2018. TOPSTAR is a program which is offered through DHS and a recent partnership with Tennessee State University to provide services peer to peer mentorship. In 2019, Mrs. Sholar Cherry was invited to teach at the Family Childcare State conference and continues to teach among her peers. In January 2020, Creative Home Academy was rebranded into Creative Home Academy and Preschool, LLC, due to a need for an expansion in offering high quality early learning care.

Mrs. Sholar Cherry is currently in pursue of her Master’s Degree in Instructional Curriculum Leadership with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education at the University of Memphis. She is an Ambassador with the Greater Memphis Chamber. She gladly accepted the opportunity to network with other business owners in the Memphis Area.

She is an advocate with Memphis BSTARS which is an organization that promotes Black moms breast feeding their infants. This organization holds a special place in her heart as she is a 3 time breastfeeding mother herself.

Her next move is currently in the works of expanding to another location offering high quality early care and become a training hub for teacher development in ECE. The project is located at 2288 Dunn Ave, 38114. This project is MAJOR for the greater Memphis area as it is located in a childcare desert. You can expect the following, SCS funded Pre-K program, high quality early care with educators specializing in ECE, onsite programs/extra curricular activities and parenting classes, event rental space, new playground space with an outdoor garden and this is just to name a few!
