A Client Has Died. What Tax Elections Must You Make?

Course Description:
When a client passes away there are income tax and estate tax issues that arise, and the family often looks to their CPA to help them through this process. In this regard, there are several different tax elections that often need to be made, and it is essential that the CPA understand the impact and timing of those elections. This webinar will highlight key income tax elections required for Forms 1040 and 1041, along with other important reporting decisions that arise. The discussion will focus on the practical questions every CPA needs to consider: What must be decided? When must it be decided? And what are the tax implications of each decision?

Learning Objectives:
-Identify key post-mortem tax elections and reporting decisions for Forms 1040 and 1041.
-Understand what must be decided, when it must be decided, and why timing matters.
-Evaluate the tax implications of these elections and apply practical strategies when advising clients and their families.

The Alphabet Soup of High Net Worth Estate Planning
August 13, 2026
8:30 a.m. - 10:15 a.m.

Course Description: Estate planners love their initials, using acronyms to describe a wide range of planning techniques. As client wealth continues to grow and estate planning for them grows increasingly complex, it is essential for CPAs to understand the language of estate planning, what the acronyms mean, and how they can be applied in practice. This webinar will walk through key options for high net worth estate planning, helping you turn the alphabet soup into practical strategies you can put to work for your clients.

Learning Objectives:
Understanding the planning needs of individuals and married couples with assets in excess of the NYS and Federal Exemption amounts.
Recognizing how techniques referred to as GRATs, SLATs, QPRTs, CRTs and CLTs (along with others) can impact clients’ estate and income tax planning.

Please join us for our NEW Professional Practice Exchange Series

Since Bob and I started Katz Tax Seminars, our goal has always been to bring the CPA community the most current and practical information. Through our in-person seminars and webinar series, we have worked to provide you with all of the technical information you need for your clients and your practices. Through conversations with many of you we have learned that there is other information that you would like us to bring to you, and as such we are launching a new series of podcast-style discussions designed specifically to further enhance your knowledge and make you an even greater resource to your clients.

In these fast-paced, practical sessions I will be speaking with other professionals that bring a special expertise about real-world tax and business issues impacting you, your clients, their businesses, and their families. These conversations will highlight tax changes, practice management, technology, and IRS developments, always with a focus on providing you with practical strategies to use with your clients.

While I know you love our regular seminars/webinars, I know that these conversations will bring you even more, by focusing on day-to-day ideas you can use. The best part is that we are bringing these to you FREE OF CHARGE, and where appropriate we will be offering CPE credit.

Our goal is simple: Bring professionals together, share valuable insights, and create conversations that help CPAs stay informed, connected, and ahead of the curve.

We hope that you will join us as we continue to grow Katz Tax Seminars for you!

Best Regards,
Neil D. Katz
