After months of collecting, preserving, organizing, and probably way too much chaos, the Melbourne America250 Community Time Capsule is finally ready to be sealed!

On September 5, 2026, MTTS will officially dedicate and seal the capsule, preserving a snapshot of life in Melbourne, Florida, in 2026 for the people of 2076.

And you can watch it happen LIVE! 📺

Hi, Palm Bay! 👋 We’re Melbourne’s Time Travelers’ Society (MTTS), a local student-run historical group dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of our community.

While a lot of our work focuses on Melbourne’s history, many of us also live, work, and spend time right here in Palm Bay. We believe every community has stories worth preserving.

For the past year, we have been researching and studying the Maxie Brannon Cemetery, a small historic cemetery located off Palm Bay Road, right in front of the Arby’s. We are also working with descendants of the family who owned the land and created the cemetery.

Over the years, the cemetery has become neglected and largely forgotten. We’re working with the City of Palm Bay to help restore the cemetery and make it more accessible and educational for city residents.

Unfortunately, the cemetery has recently experienced some damage, which we are looking into and hope to help address soon.

We’ll be sharing more about the Maxie Brannon Cemetery and our work to preserve this little piece of Palm Bay history in the coming weeks.

Mark your calendars, because we have some dates for you! With just 22 days until the Time Capsule is sealed, we’ve been working overtime to get you all more opportunities to drop off your postcards and items for the capsule.

August 8-9, 9 A.M. – 2 P.M.

Renninger’s Flea Market is allowing us to set up a booth to allow shoppers to create their own “Postcard to the Future”! Come write a postcard and while you’re at it, check out MTTS’s other cool items and learn how we’re preserving Melbourne’s history one artifact at a time.

Saturday, August 15, 12 P.M. – 3 P.M.

Melbourne Square Mall is hosting a Back to School Bash, and just like at the Flea Market, we will be there with the time capsule and other artifacts MTTS has collected over the years.

Can’t make it to either event? Don’t worry! We have more events coming up, and with school starting up, we’re working with all the schools in Melbourne to teach students about time capsules and give them a chance to contribute something as well 😊
