It’s Summertime!

Here are 10 things you can do to help your child get ready for kindergarten this summer:

1. Be Chatty - Parents who regularly interact with their children build their children’s word bank.

2. Read Aloud – Reading to your child teaches your child him/her many things that we adults take for granted.

3. Practice Independent Tasks – When your child is at school, he/she needs to be able to do certain things independently.

4. Do Dress Rehearsals - Prepare your child for what to expect in kindergarten.

5. Play and Learn - When your child plays, you can weave in learning by introducing new words and concepts and helping them stretch their thinking.

6. Practice Facts and Figures – Have your children count everyday items and recognize numbers in written form. Work on these skills as well as knowing basic shapes, colors, and sorting for numeracy readiness.

7. Take Field Trips - Studies show that children with a wealth of background knowledge have better vocabularies and more advanced reading skills.

8. Focus on Big and Small Movements - Fine motor skills and gross motor skills take intention and repetition.

9. Emphasize Socialization – Keep up those play dates with other kids. It’s important your child knows how to take turns, share, listen, and cooperate with others.

10. Don’t Forget About Sleep - About a month before kindergarten starts, sync bedtime and wake-up times to the upcoming school schedule.

“Focusing on VPK and Kindergarten Readiness”
Who can join us for the fun?
All incoming students attending VPK for the 2022 – 2023 school year. And ALL 2022 First Friends VPK Graduates.
What will we be doing?
This will be an action packed two week summer camp, filled with a wide variety of fun filled learning experiences including Arts and crafts, Science, Math, Reading, Bible stories, Water play and much, much more. Themed days will also be included. S.T.R.E.A.M. stands for Sciene,Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Math
Our Focus?
Will be to help keep VPK graduates on task before entering kindergarten and introducing all future VPK students to the VPK classroom enviroment..
