Today, students from Mrs. Davenportโ€™s classes participated in our annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. This group showed up this morning and willingly climbed stairs in the Florida humidity without complaint. They gave it their all, pushed through the challenge, and never quit. We hope that it was a meaningful experience for all that participated.

Not a single one of these students was alive when this tragedy occurred, but the fact that they were willing to participate today in remembrance of those who were lost truly warms the heart. It gives hope for this generation and confidence they will never forget the sacrifices made and the lives affected on September 11th, 2001.

Palm Bay Magnet High School would like to extend a sincere thank you to the members of the Melbourne Police Department's SWAT Team and Training Unit who came out and completed this exercise with us. Their willingness to support our students and participate alongside them speaks volumes about their commitment to our community. They truly show up for the people they serve, and we are grateful for their support.

Millage allows Brevard Public Schools to provide teacher salaries that remain competitive with surrounding counties and reflects our commitment to investing in fair, competitive teacher pay.

This is not a new tax. The millage is a renewal of an existing local funding source that helps support teacher salaries and school operations throughout Brevard County.

A portion of millage revenue is dedicated to supporting teacher compensation, helping fund the educators who teach and support students across our district.

Millage is one of the local funding sources that helps Brevard Public Schools invest in its workforce and continue supporting classrooms throughout the county.

Surtax funding strengthens school safety by providing the physical security tools schools rely on every day.

This is not a new tax. The Sales Surtax is a renewal of the existing half-cent sales tax that helps fund safe, maintained, and modern school facilities.

One example is OpenGate weapons detection. Funded by the Surtax, OpenGate is currently installed at every high school in Brevard Public Schools.

Systems like these create safer entrances and allow for faster threat detection while helping schools maintain an efficient arrival process for students.

Surtax ensures Brevard Public Schools can continue investing in security measures that help protect students and staff.

Earlier this week we shared about the Sales Surtax.

The second measure on November's ballot is the ๐Œ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐š๐ ๐ž โ€” a property tax renewal that funds the teachers, programs, and technology that make learning happen every day in Brevard County classrooms.

Millage is the small portion of property taxes that stays right here in Brevard County, locally approved by voters to directly support Brevard Public Schools. Every dollar collected goes to the people and programs inside our schools.

Millage funds three things: ๐ž๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฒ๐ž๐ž ๐ฉ๐š๐ฒ, ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐š๐ฅ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐ ๐ซ๐š๐ฆ๐ฌ, ๐š๐ง๐ ๐œ๐ฅ๐š๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ซ๐จ๐จ๐ฆ ๐ญ๐ž๐œ๐ก๐ง๐จ๐ฅ๐จ๐ ๐ฒ.

This November, two local funding measures are on the ballot. Neither are new. Both are already in place.

The first is the Sales Surtax โ€” a sales tax renewal that funds safe, maintained, and modern school facilities.

The Surtax is the small portion of sales tax that stays right here in Brevard to keep school buildings safe, in good repair, and up to date.

It funds three things: secure buildings, facility investments, and technology infrastructure.

Over the next several weeks, we'll share more about what the Surtax funds.
