If your child is in ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, here are three common warning signs to look for in detecting DYSLEXIA.
1) SPELLING – Can’t remember how to spell words. Also struggles with hearing all the sounds in a word, especially when writing sentences or paragraphs.
2) REVERSALS past the end of 1st grade (b/d, was/saw, on/no).
3) Can’t remember SIGHT WORDS when reading or writing – (have, was, there).

If your child is in PRESCHOOL or KINDERGARTEN, here are three common warning signs to look for in detecting DYSLEXIA.
• FAMILY HISTORY – Are there any close relatives who struggled with reading in school or who avoid reading as an adult?
• RHYMING – in order for students to read, they need to be able to separate and blend the sounds in words. The ability to rhyme is a good indicator that phonemic awareness is in place.
• JUMBLING WORDS – Some children struggle to pronounce words correctly and mix up similarly sounding words or parts or words, such as potato/tomato or ketchup/kepuch
