Learning looks a little different at SSR Academy—and that’s exactly the point.

Our students learn by exploring, creating, questioning, building, experimenting, caring for animals, working together, and discovering what sparks their curiosity.

From science and agriculture to the arts, humanities, life skills, and everything in between, we believe education should be something students experience—not simply something they complete.

This is learning at SSR Academy. This is where curiosity comes to life.

This week, our SSR Academy students had the opportunity to make birthday cards for a very special gentleman who will soon be celebrating his 100th birthday. He is a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War, and it was such an honor for our students to be able to send him a little birthday love and, most importantly, our gratitude.

What made me especially proud was how eager our students were not only to make their cards, but to ask questions. They wanted to know what it means to be a veteran, what he may have experienced during his service, and what the world was like during those times.

It also led to some wonderful conversations about just how much someone who is turning 100 years old has witnessed firsthand. Think about the changes that have taken place in our country and around the world during his lifetime—the history he has lived through, the technology he has watched develop, and a world that looks very different today than the one he was born into.

These are the kinds of learning opportunities I love most. Our students weren't simply reading about history in a book. They were connecting history to a real person and recognizing that behind the events we study are real people, real lives, and real sacrifices.

We are incredibly thankful for his service to our country, and we hope these cards bring a little extra joy to a very special 100th birthday to our hero, Master Sergeant Charles Braun!

A huge thank you to Michelle and Emma from Oklahoma Baptist University for spending the morning with us at SSR Academy!

Michelle, OBU’s Homeschool Admissions Counselor, and Emma, OBU’s Concurrent Student Admissions Counselor, came bearing donuts (which are always a great way to start the morning!) and took the time to visit with our students and parents about OBU, concurrent enrollment opportunities, and the many resources available to homeschool families.

What made their visit even more special is that both of these wonderful women are homeschool moms themselves. They understand the homeschool journey and were able to share not only information about college and concurrent classes, but also practical resources available to homeschool families.

OBU has a free transcript template and GPA calculator available right on their website for anyone to use. You don’t have to be in the admissions process, you don’t have to have applied to OBU, and your student doesn’t ever have to become an OBU student to take advantage of them.

And honestly, that is one of the things we appreciate so much about OBU. They genuinely want to be a resource for homeschool families. Of course they would love for your student to someday choose OBU, but their willingness to answer questions, offer guidance, and provide helpful resources isn’t dependent on that. They simply want to help families navigate high school, concurrent enrollment, college preparation, and whatever comes next.

We are so thankful for people who are willing to be a resource to our families and who genuinely want to help students find the opportunities that are right for them.

Thank you, Michelle and Emma, for investing in our students, answering questions, sharing your experience, and simply spending the morning getting to know our SSR Academy community. We appreciate you both so much and loved having you with us!

One of the best things about learning at SSR Academy is that sometimes the classroom looks a lot more like a pond than a desk.

Our Fishing class gives students the opportunity to get outside, learn practical skills, practice patience, and experience the excitement that comes when all that waiting finally pays off.

And judging by this catch, I’d say it paid off pretty well!

Hands-on learning is a huge part of what we do at SSR. We want our students to have opportunities to learn skills, try new things, get a little dirty, and make memories along the way.

Fishing class is definitely a favorite around here, and we can see why!

Come to the Oklahoma State Fair with SSR Academy!

We have an amazing opportunity for homeschool families to join us at the Oklahoma State Fair on Friday, September 18, with significantly reduced admission prices!

Friday, September 18�Meet us at Gate 6 at 10:00 AM�Oklahoma State Fair at OKC Fair Park
SSR GROUP PRICING:
Ages 2 and under: free. �Homeschool students, ages 3-18; $5 �Adults, ages 19 and older: $14

🎟️IMPORTANT RSVP DEADLINE:🎟️

You MUST RSVP and pay for your tickets before September 1 at 5:00 PM to receive our group pricing. We cannot add tickets after the deadline.

After September 1 at 5:00 PM, you are absolutely still welcome to join us, but you will need to purchase your own admission at the gate. To RSVP please message us. Do not comment on any post as we may not see it.

PARKING:�We will meet at Gate 6, which can be accessed from Reno Avenue and has access to free Fair parking. Please follow the signs for FREE PARKING rather than paid parking.

Our field trip price covers ADMISSION ONLY. If you choose to park in a paid parking area, you will be responsible for your own parking fee.

Rides, carnival games, food, drinks, shopping and any other Fair expenses are NOT included. Families will be responsible for those expenses themselves.

IMPORTANT: Everyone using our SSR group tickets must meet us at 10:00 AM and enter the Fair WITH our group. We cannot have families arriving throughout the day and using our group admission separately. I will not be staying at the gate throughout the day to distribute tickets to late arrivals, so please plan accordingly and give yourself plenty of time to park and get to Gate 6 before 10:00.

Once we are all through the gate, you are free to disperse and enjoy the Fair however you would like! This is not a stay-together field trip. Spend the day with your family, meet up with friends, ride rides, eat all the ridiculous Fair food, see the exhibits and stay as long as you want. There is no designated departure time.

You do NOT have to be an SSR Academy student to join us. This is open to homeschool families who would like to attend with our group and take advantage of the reduced admission price.

Again, the deadline is September 1 at 5:00 PM. Once that deadline passes, I cannot add anyone to our discounted ticket order. After that time you will need to purchase tickets at the gate. Gate prices are $10 for kids 12 AND UNDER. $17 for “adults” 13 AND OVER. Yes, teens are considered adults for fair admissions. To RSVP please message us. Whenever possible, we're going to choose the second one.

We want our students building, experimenting, dissecting, planting, caring for animals, investigating, designing, questioning, failing, fixing it and trying again.

We absolutely believe children need strong academics.

We just don't believe a worksheet is always the best way to get there.

At SSR Academy, hands-on learning isn't the special activity we squeeze in after the "real" lesson.
It is part of the real lesson.

What a whirlwind these first two weeks have been!

There has been so much learning, exploring, creating, laughing, getting dirty, trying new things, making new friends, and settling back into the rhythm of being together. And somehow, we’re already two weeks in!

We are incredibly thankful for every teacher, helper, parent, and family who makes SSR Academy what it is. A special thank you to our teachers and helpers who show up each week and pour their time, patience, knowledge, and hearts into our students. So much of what happens here is possible because of people who simply love these kids and believe that learning can look a little different.

These first two weeks haven’t been perfect. They’ve been busy, a little chaotic at times, and full of figuring things out—but they’ve also been really, really good.

We’re finding our groove, our students are finding their places, and this little community continues to remind us why we do what we do.

Here’s a little peek at our first two weeks at SSR Academy. We can’t wait to see what the rest of this year brings!

A huge THANK YOU to Momma Mae’s Food Truck for helping us kick off our first day back at SSR Academy with a very happy bunch of kids!

The quesadillas were absolutely delicious, the ice cream was the perfect first-day treat, and our students loved every bite.

There’s just something extra special about gathering together over good food on the first day of a new school year, and Momma Mae’s Food Truck helped make today even more memorable.

Thank you so much for your generosity, feeding our crew, and being part of our first-day fun. We appreciate you more than you know!

What a wonderful way to start another year of learning, adventures, and making memories at SSR Academy!
