A huge THANK YOU to Momma Mae’s Food Truck for helping us kick off our first day back at SSR Academy with a very happy bunch of kids!

The quesadillas were absolutely delicious, the ice cream was the perfect first-day treat, and our students loved every bite.

There’s just something extra special about gathering together over good food on the first day of a new school year, and Momma Mae’s Food Truck helped make today even more memorable.

Thank you so much for your generosity, feeding our crew, and being part of our first-day fun. We appreciate you more than you know!

What a wonderful way to start another year of learning, adventures, and making memories at SSR Academy!

Childhood is not a race.

At SSR Academy, we don’t believe every child needs to learn the same thing, in the same way, at the same pace.

Some kids need to build it.

Some need to take it apart.

Some need to read about it, talk about it, draw it, grow it, care for it, or spend an entire afternoon asking “what if?”

And sometimes, they need a little more time.

We believe there is tremendous value in giving children room to discover what they’re good at, what they care about, and who they are becoming.

That’s why SSR looks a little different.

There are animals to care for, things to build, problems to solve, questions to investigate, stories to explore, skills to practice, and plenty of opportunities to get your hands dirty.

Because education should be about more than getting through the material.

It should help a child discover:

I can do hard things.
I have something to contribute.
There are things in this world that I care about.
And I’m still figuring out what my “thing” might be.

That’s a pretty important part of growing up, too.

At SSR Academy, all-inclusive really means all-inclusive.

We believe families should know what their education is going to cost without being surprised by extra fees throughout the year.

At SSR Academy, your tuition includes the experiences that make our learning community special:

Hands-on learning
Agriculture and animal experiences
Science and experiments
Art and creative projects
Sports and activities
Real-world, practical learning
Special events and celebrations
Everyday classroom materials and supplies

And one of our favorites — no fundraisers!

No selling cookie dough. No wrapping paper catalogs. No asking grandparents to buy something. No requirement to raise a certain amount just so students can participate.

We intentionally structure our tuition to cover the whole SSR experience because we want families to be able to plan for one predictable cost.

At SSR Academy, we aren't interested in nickel-and-diming families for every activity, project, or experience.

One tuition. Lots of adventures. No constant add-ons.

At SSR Academy, we don’t measure success by how many students we can fit through our doors.

We measure it by how well we know the students who walk through them.

We are intentionally small.

We want to know more than a student’s name. We want to know what makes them laugh. What frustrates them. What they’re incredibly good at. What they’re still figuring out. Whether they need to be challenged, encouraged, given a little space, or reminded that someone believes they can do hard things.

We want to notice when the kid who normally talks all day is suddenly quiet.

We want to know who loves animals, who could spend hours building something, who comes alive during a science experiment, who would rather be outside, who loves history, and who hasn’t found their “thing” yet.

Because children deserve to be known.

There are wonderful large educational communities, and there is absolutely a place for them.

But that isn’t what we are trying to build.

At SSR Academy, growth will never simply mean fitting as many students as possible onto our campus. As we grow, protecting the small-community experience will remain one of our priorities.

Our students have names.

They have stories.

They have strengths.

They have struggles.

They have ideas worth listening to.

They have value.

And they will never be “just another kid in the class” here.

Small by design.

Personal on purpose.

A little SSR history…

Did you know SSR Academy began in 2018?

The “SSR” comes from Slash S Ranch, the little piece of Oklahoma where our story began.

What started as a small homeschool community has grown over the years into a place filled with children, animals, gardens, science experiments, art projects, books, sports, big ideas and lots and lots of questions.

We’ve learned beside chickens and sheep, planted gardens, built things, taken things apart, solved mysteries, made art, tried new sports, studied fascinating people and followed more rabbit trails than I could ever count.

Through all of it, one thing has stayed the same.

We believe childhood should leave room for wonder.

Room to explore.
Room to create.
Room to get your hands dirty.
Room to ask questions.
Room to care for living things.
Room to discover something you never knew you loved.

Eight years later, Slash S Ranch is still home, the animals are still part of our classrooms, and there is always something new to discover.

That’s a little bit of how SSR came to be.

And what a lovely little story it has been so far.

Our field trip to the Oklahoma Aquarium was so amazing! Our teens got a back stage pass to see the workings of the bull shark enclosure. Fun fact, the Oklahoma Aquarium and an aquarium in Japan are the only two in the world that have bull sharks in captivity!

Good news! We’ve extended SSR Academy enrollment!

If you’ve been thinking about joining us this fall, you have ONE more day!

Enrollment will officially close tomorrow, Wednesday, August 12 at 5:00 PM.

Come learn, explore, create, build, investigate, care for animals, play sports, make friends, and find your thing at SSR Academy.

Classes begin August 19, and we can’t wait for an amazing fall semester!

SSR Academy isn’t just for little kids. In fact, I think the teen years are when SSR gets REALLY fun.

This is where you get to take classes like Cold Case Files, CSI, Horrible Histories, storm chasing, environmental science, child development and German fairy tales.

You can fence. Play soccer. Fish at the pond. Join Student Council. Go to teen nights, dances and prom. Take on leadership roles. Work with animals. Get your hands dirty. Try something completely new.

And maybe the best part?

You don’t have to fit into one little box here.

You can be the kid who loves science AND art.
The athlete who also loves history.
The quiet kid who suddenly discovers they’re really good at debate.
The teenager who hasn’t quite figured out “their thing” yet.

That’s okay.

SSR is a place to try things, make friends, be challenged, laugh a lot, get a little muddy, and figure out more about who you are and what you’re capable of.

We take learning seriously.

We just don’t think it has to look serious all the time.

That’s the fun of being a teenager at SSR Academy.
