This was written recently by one of my piano students and I thought it was too good not to share!

IF YOU TELL A PIANO STUDENT TO PRACTICE

If you tell a piano student to practice, she’ll go to find her piano books first. When she looks in her piano bag, she’ll find her old cellphone and want to play some games. When she tries to turn it on, she’ll figure out that it’s dead and go off to look for her charger. As she heads over to the outlet, she’ll hear an ice cream truck and want some ice cream. She’ll go outside to chase down the ice cream truck, but she doesn’t have any money. She’ll ask you for a dollar to buy two popsicles. As you walk home, she’ll see a man walking his dog and remember the pets report that was due tomorrow for homework. She’ll race back home and be so tired that she’ll want a nap. When she goes in her room, she’ll see a poster about the TV show “America’s Got Talent” and remember that it’s on tonight. She’ll go downstairs and turn the TV on. The pianist playing will remind her that she had forgotten to do her piano practice. She’ll race down to get her piano books and find her teacher waiting to do her lesson. At the end of the lesson, she’ll be so humiliated by her poor performance that she’ll never forget to practice again.

We are going to be starting a "Composer of the Month" Year in our studio.
Who else to start with but one of the greatest and most recognized composers of all: Beethoven!
My students are going to listen to examples of Beethoven's works and do some reading about his life.
Here is a link to a site to get everyone started:

Ludwig van Beethoven was a uniquely talented composer and musician. But by the time Beethoven was 30, his increasing deafness put an end to his career as a pianist. That did not stop him from continuing to compose some of the most beautiful music the world has ever known. As a composer, Beethoven wa...
