Let’s talk business insurance. In a society like the U.S. who love to sue the likelihood of getting sued is high in any business.

Event persons are being sued. My first question is show me your business insurance policy. It’s quickly determined what help they need if they don’t have it.

A contract isn’t going to protect you when you’re being sued for liability.

Liability is a broad term and that makes it difficult to predict how you could be sued.

Let’s think about one aspect of the event industry, Officiants.

They have to ensure that the legal paperwork is not only correct but legal.
Then filled in correctly. Mailed and received by the county clerks office.
You need to be sure it’s not a forced marriage and that both are willingly wanting to marry.
Then there’s the ceremony, you need to ensure you use the right legal words to ensure it’s a legal marriage.

Gosh there’s more to it but I won’t bore you.

Then there’s the other liability of performing it in the way the couple wanted. Ensuring that you don’t say or do anything wrong. Then let’s talk about the liability of what’s around you.
Did you use a candle for a ceremony, you are now opening up a whole new liability.
Did you set up under a canopy of sorts, that’s a liability if it should fall on you or anyone.
Did you hold the rings, that’s a liability.
And so on.

We put ourselves at risk of liabilities without really considering what could happen if a couple decides they want to hold us responsible.
This goes for anyone involved in the event industry offering a service or goods.

Having business insurance covers us for the legal aspects and having liability insurance included covers us for liabilities.

So please think about the importance of business insurance.
You can obtain it through your home insurance or you can get it independently.
It’s not that expensive. One wedding ceremony will cover the cost of it.
