Congratulations to Highland Softball player Michayla Oyler on her tremendous accomplishments! Michayla is a Highland senior who attends the Medina County Career Center. This summer, she graduated from U.S. Army Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, after completing the 10-week program through the Ohio Army National Guard’s Split Training Option. At graduation, Michayla was one of only six Soldiers out of approximately 200 in her battery selected for promotion. She was recommended by her drill sergeants for demonstrating strong leadership and promoted to Private First Class (E-3). After graduation this coming spring, she will attend Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, to become a 68W Combat Medic before heading off to college next fall.

Meet Michayla Oyler!

Michayla (Highland Local School District) is a senior in MCCC’s Allied Health & Pre-Nursing program, an active member of our Purple Star group, and now…a U.S. Army soldier!

On August 14, Michayla graduated from 10 weeks of U.S. Army Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. She joined the Army to help fund her college education and hopes to eventually earn her PA license. She enjoyed the experience of basic training, meeting new people, and carrying on her family’s proud tradition of military service. Her dad, Sgt. Mike Oyler of Medina Township Police, served in the Ohio Army National Guard, and her grandfather is also a veteran.

And that’s not all! Michayla is a standout athlete, earning 1st Team All-Medina County and 1st Team Suburban League honors for Highland softball.

When asked what surprised her most about basic training, Michayla’s answer was: “How easy it was!” And when asked what she’d tell others about the experience? “They should join!”

Michayla, we are incredibly proud of all you’re accomplishing. From the classroom to the softball field to the U.S. Army, you’re already proving that you can do it all—and we have no doubt there’s an amazing future ahead!
