The Summer Program is buzzing this first week for “Outdoor Odyssey!” Campers are exploring nature, making bug hotels with painted bug rocks🐛 🐞sun prints (shadow cast prints that appear on special paper when wet) and solar ovens. Our older campers also had their first field trip to the pool! Happy Summer!

One of our favorite parts of the year is to come together at our end of year assembly and to celebrate our fifth graders. Students in elementary school also share what they’re most proud of. This year’s most popular proud moments included reading and writing accomplishments, and Bill Peet Day and biography presentations 🎓💙🤍
We hope everyone has an amazing first week of summer! See you next week when Walden kicks off its Summer Program 🌞😎🍉

Congratulations to Lucia and Edward as they complete their journeys at Walden and prepare for exciting new chapters ahead! From preschool beginnings to years of growth, leadership, friendship, and learning, both students have made a lasting impact on our community. 💙🤍🎓Lucia will attend Westtown School, while Edward heads to Delaware Valley Friends for middle school this fall.
We are so proud of all they have accomplished and can’t wait to see all they continue to achieve in the years ahead!
All are invited to our End-of-Year Assembly tomorrow morning at 10:30 as we celebrate Edward & Lucia, and hear from all of our elementary students about their proudest accomplishments from the year. Reminder that Primary also has an early dismissal at 11:30, and elementary students are dismissed at noon.

Congratulations to Walden Alum Madison Freeman on her high school graduation! Maddie graduated from Arch Bishop Caroll High School 🎓🎓
During her four years there, Maddie was an influential member of her graduating class as class president for senior year, was involved in nearly every theatre performance (several productions that current Walden students could attend!), and was also a part of their Best Buddy mentoring program.
We wish her the best of luck as she attends Loyola University in Maryland this fall as a theater major! Please keep coming back to visit us at Walden 💙🤍

Our Elementary students will have a “Fun Friday” every couple weeks… Grade 1/2’s most recent Fun Friday activity brought their science “Birds & Nests” theme to life with 8 hands-on stations where students explored how birds use their beaks to find and eat food.
Using different tools as “bills” and objects as “food,” they tested which tool worked best, and discovered which bird has that type of bill! We’re always learning through play, problem-solving, and exploration here at Walden!

Walden had an amazing visit from New York Times bestselling and award-winning author Jonathan Stutzman and illustrator/designer Jay Fleck, who launched their book “Uh-Oh Hugo!” TODAY. Together, they have written and illustrated nearly a dozen books in their Tiny T. rex series.
Walden partnered with Celia Bookshop in Swarthmore for this Author Visit, during which Jonathan read “Uh-Oh Hugo!” to our students while Jay gave a live illustration demonstration.
Walden students were the first in the world to hear the book straight from the author’s mouth! And some of our students will also be the first to own a special, signed copy of the book.
We are so grateful to give our students this opportunity!

The 3/4/5 class recently spent a “day of college” at Bryn Mawr College, hosted by parent José Vergara. The visit included a chemistry lab on “fire and ice,” where students observed and participated in experiments with gas bubbles and liquid nitrogen ice cream. They also attended a Russian language class, practicing basic greetings and writing in the Cyrillic alphabet.
Students toured the campus, had lunch in the dining hall, and spent the afternoon on the soccer field working with college players and coaches.
This is one of many interactive field trips where Walden’s Upper Elementary students engage with real practitioners in their fields.
