Troy Brock of King of Prussia, 57, always dreamed of becoming a police officer. He’s worked for decades as a security guard for St. Joseph’s University, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the University of Delaware and the Chester County Courthouse—but always wanted more. In 2009 he enrolled in a police academy but suffered an injury halfway through and had to drop out. A subsequent injury a few years later convinced him that it was too late to attempt the rigors of a physically demanding police academy program.

“I thought being a security guard was my ceiling,” he said. “I thought I was too old and out of shape.” But he decided to try one last time. As the oldest member of the June 2026 Delaware County Municipal Police Academy (MPA) class, he’s gone from being able to do only a single push-up to consistently passing the frequent physical tests demanded of police academy candidate. And on June 11 at Ridley High School, he will graduate from the MPA with 56 other newly minted officers. His father—a retired police officer—will be in attendance. Says Brock, “I thought my dream was buried, but I learned that it’s never too late.”

Last night was a big night for our Emergency Services Education students at DCCC.

Agencies in attendance included:
• Philadelphia Fire Department
• Washington DC Fire & EMS
• STAT Transport
• Boothwyn Fire Company
• Ambulanz

Events like this help our students see real career paths, make professional connections, and understand what it takes to move forward in the field.

If you’re thinking about becoming an EMT or Paramedic, this is the type of access and support you can expect at DCCC. Our programs prepare you for the job and help you connect with the organizations who are ready to hire.

Start your training. Build your future. Join us at DCCC Emergency Services Education. Register for Spring EMT classes now. Paramedic applications open in January. https://www.dccc.edu/emergency-services/
