Do you self identify as a first generation college student?! If you do, come join the First Generation Student Council's first campus wide “I’m First” campaign!

This campaign will include taking photographs of students, professors, faculty, and staff. We would put your photo on a poster along with a quote from you describing how being first generation has affected you, any accomplishments you have achieved, or how Tufts has helped you.

The purpose of this project is to empower the first generation community at Tufts while upholding pride and acknowledging our accomplishments. We want to destigmatize the first generation name and encourage students to be involved. The campaign will make the First Gen. Student Council more visible on campus and help to identify the students who identify as such. We plan to show how different we all are and put a voice to our stories and ultimately create a first generation community.

We would love to invite you to join this campaign! If you are interested in having your photo taken for the campaign, please email us at [email protected] or come to the campus center on Mondays from noon to 1pm and Fridays from noon to 2pm and find our table!

Are you the first in your family to go to college? Would you like to help other students who identify similarly? Then come to the We’re First info session to learn how!

We’re First is a project aimed to help First Generation college students through a peer model. A First Generation student is someone who identifies as being the first in their family to attend a four-year college or university. Current Tufts students, who identify as First Generation, will give insight to incoming first generation students by sharing their experiences. The info session will be taking place on Thursday from 6-7pm in room 203 of the Campus Center.

This project is in partnership with Tisch College and the Office of Student Transition. Feel free to contact Najeia Mention at [email protected] with any questions you have.
