Hello all!
Starting today, 3/6 and running until next Friday, 3/15, BEaChEs is running a Food and Toiletries Drive, and all donations will benefit Project SOUP in Somerville. A large collection box has been placed in STC 124 (in the back corner) along with a list of acceptable and desired items, which is also attached here for reference.
For extra motivation, research groups across the BME and ChemE departments will be competing against one another! On the collection box, there is a QR code to scan that will allow you to log your donations and the research group you’re apart of. The winning group (most food donated calculated per capita, not total amount of food) will win a free lunch!
Hope everyone is able to participate and help out the local Somerville community!

Congratulations to Trevor Nicks who defended his PhD thesis yesterday. Trevor is a Biotechnology Engineering PhD candidate in Professor Nik Nair’s lab. His thesis was titled “Engineering Biological Extremes: Genetically Encoded Immobilization of Proteins through Bacterial Spore-Display.” Trevor’s work focuses on using bacterial spores as platforms for production and surface-immobilization of enzymes that act as catalysts to further produce chemicals, which the work at Caravel Bio, a startup Trevor co-founded, is based on. During his time at Tufts, Trevor was also the Secretary and Social Chair of BEaChES. We wish you the best of luck in Oregon with Caravel Bio. Your BEaChES family is super proud of you, Dr. Nicks!
