We’ve normalised filling every quiet moment with noise. Podcasts while walking, scrolling while eating, and endless entertainment. But your mind needs space to breathe. Boredom isn’t the enemy. Sometimes, it’s where clarity begins. Put the phone down. Let silence in. You may discover what your mind has been trying to tell you.

HELP US HELP KIDS!

At Martial Arts of Medford we pride ourselves on teaching more than just karate. We teach specific lessons on character traits and life skills as well. Self-control, courage, discipline, respect, integrity, and kindness are all part of the curriculum.

We have several students whose families are having difficulty affording class even though we keep our prices as low as possible. It is in that area that we need your help.

You can use the link provided to help sponsor a kid. We charge $95 per month but any amount helps. Any amount will be greatly appreciated by a child who wants to learn. Just use the link below.

Front kick-toes vs ball of foot

I was taught by both my teachers that in Matsumura Seito front kicks are done by striking with the tips of the toes. So that is how I have always practiced. However there is a time and a place for everything. So I do use the ball of the foot on occasion. For most people it has to do with the intended target. With me it is more about the angle and height of the intended target and less about the actual surface.
Kick things of different density with and without shoes. Find out what you are capable of, and comfortable with to instill confidence.

Food for thought as we train
