Chemical Engineering at Tufts University was established in 1901 and the first Bachelor of Science degree was awarded in 1905, making Tufts one of the first five colleges in the United States to develop a chemical engineering curriculum. In 2000, Tufts became the first chemical engineering department in the nation to recognize the evolving interdisciplinary nature of the field by integrating biolo

gical engineering into its curriculum. Our students are involved in cutting edge research in energy production, catalysis, metabolic and cell engineering, nanomaterials and biomaterials and systems and environmental engineering. Tufts also provides opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration within the School of Engineering and among all the University's schools.
