Q: How do you know if your current strength capabilities are enough to maximize your longevity and health span? In a recent podcast, Peter Attia, M.D. discusses that specifically and provides some great examples for how you can test that.
•
A: Here are some metrics you should track to assess your current skills:
1. Standing broad jump (goal= body height+)
2. Pull-ups w/ 3 second eccentric (males 5+, females 3+)
3. Dead hang (males- 2:00 min; females- 1.5 min)
4. Wall sit w thighs parallel (2 mins)
5. Farmers carry (males- carry 100% of body weight, 50% in each hand, for 1 min as; female carry 75% of bodyweight, split between each hand, for 1 min.)
6. Wighted box step ups (25% of body weight in each hand for 5 reps per side)
7. Wall push up (male- 20; women- 20)
•
Do these seem tough? Yeah they do! 99% of people would likely struggle to meet a lot of these markers.
•
But we agree with Dr. Peter Attia these strength and power movements are amazing markers of health. And here at F45 we dont want you to live an ‘average’ life in your 40s, 50s and 60s+. We want you living life to the fullest!
•
And please note, WHATS MOST IMPORTANT is not that you can hit all these targets, “it’s whether you are making progress.”
•
So go something TODAY that helps you make one step forward with one of these movements. Which one do you think would be the most challenging for you?
