First grade went to Ms. Marsha’s Pumpkin patch, where we completed a scavenger hunt, went for a wagon ride, got to pet and feed bunnies, goats and turkeys & play, play, play!!!

Today we met Tango the therapy dog - therapy dogs are often used in hospitals and schools to provide comfort and a state of calm. Students enjoyed petting Tango and asking questions to his handler, Chip & Sue. Thanks for visiting our classroom!

This summer I received donations from my friends and family for a Scholastic Book Donation, where every child in my class will receive a book, free of charge, once a month, for the entire school year!

Yesterday we received our first donation book titled, A Bad Case of the Stripes by David Shannon. In this story, Camilla gets a bizarre case of colorful stripes, but returns to normal health when she learns to embrace (and not hide) her unique self.

As a part of our school wide behavioral system, kids can earn shields by showcasing respect, responsibility, safety and fun. We then add this to a large shield in the cafeteria and once it’s filled, we have a school wide celebration. MAES filled the shield and we got to celebrate with popsicles - yum!

In Science class we learned the benefits of different animal traits in an experiment - first students used two different types of bird beaks to collect seeds (noodles) and then tried again, working to avoid the rocks (dried beans).
