Today is the day! We have been practicing very hard on our songs. :-) To help you prepare for seating here is the PreK set up. My class will be the closest to the doors you walk through.

The apple orchard that generously provided our PreK classrooms with apples for our applesauce and apple tastings is still open for a few weeks. Please check them out if you are interested in a variety of apples or apple cider. https://www.facebook.com/CherrybrookOrchard/

Cherrybrook Orchard is a U-Pick orchard specializing in Honeycrisp apples.

Last week our theme was 5 Senses. We had a great time getting to test out our senses of sight and hearing on a scavenger hunt, taste with a popsicle reward, touch with all the fun play spaces at the pumpkin patch, and smell by describing things that smelled good vs smelly. Our first field trip was a huge success for all the kids! :-) If you haven't checked it out yet, please take a visit over to https://www.facebook.com/msmarshaspumpkinpatch/ Please continue to help your child use describing words to help build their vocabulary as they explore their world.

Apples week was busy! We painted paper plate apples, decorated paper mosaic apples, made applesauce, and practiced sequencing events of how an apple grows. We started our first letter of the week activities that include practicing identifying and saying the letter name and sound, working on various skills in an interactive letter journal, practicing how to write, trace, and draw in our letter books, using the Ipad App Handwriting without Tears to practice letter formation of upper and lowercase letters, using Starfall to do letter, shape, and color practice, and using mini chalk boards and sponges to do Wet-Try-Dry letter formation practice. We started our Mat Man practice where we learn the parts of the body through a song which in turn helps us draw a person with all of the basic body parts (a year long skill). Ms. Sheryl (our Speech and Language specialist) comes in twice a week during circle time to help us with the letter sound and language for learning skills like comprehension and recall activities. We have centers twice per week where we do small group practice with Ms. Amy for fine motor skills, Ms. Sheryl for sound and comprehension skills, Ms. B and myself for games, theme work and other theme activities. We also had a visit with Mr. Miller (principal) and Mrs. Faude (behavioral specialist) to review our school wide expectations and talk about shields that help us show all the great things we do to show respect, responsibility, safety, and fun. When the large shield is full there will be a school wide celebration! Twice per month Ms. Alison (English Language Learner teacher) will be coming in our room to do activities with us to help us embrace the various languages and cultures that we have in our school and community. This week the students heard the Spanish alphabet, played Loteria (Spanish bingo), and sang an Adios song.

Shapes week we talked about our 4 basic shapes, practiced finding them around the room, singing and dancing to the Shape Hokey Pokey, made noodle shapes to practice fine motor skills, and a lot of practice with our beginning school skills (cutting, gluing, following directions, waiting, matching). We are teaching how to color our best by taking our time, looking at the shape to see if we should use little lines or little circles to fill it in, and to hold our crayons correctly. We have also been starting to do a few more brain breaks in our day to help us get the wiggles out and reset ourselves to be ready to focus. This week we started our 2nd Step curriculum which helps us improve our social skills, school readiness skills, self awareness, and self regulation skills. We had our first visit from the friends at the library. Every other month they come to read us a few stories and do a fun shakes & wiggles movement time.

There will be several posts coming as this will be a September recap of events. Starting with the first week of school. We reviewed our classroom expectations of using quiet voices inside, walking feet, sharing and taking turns, keeping our hands and feet to ourselves, and following directions. There was a lot of play time to get familiar with each other and the toys in our room. Thank you to everyone who returned a family tree. The kids have enjoyed seeing their families on display. :-)

Hi everyone, I am sorry I haven't made any recent posts on Facebook. I hope to get better at that again. I have, however, been adding pictures into our Google Drive folder https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1DO2lzopgm_LudOpTXDbUNgT_UbT7mpdH?usp=sharing that you can access and copy any pictures you would like to save. Ms. Amber https://www.facebook.com/MsAmberPreK and Ms. Brittany https://www.facebook.com/MsBrittanyPreK do a much better job of getting pictures of the 'in the moment' of the activities that we all do so feel free to check them out as well.
