Infants and children with neuromuscular impairments often experience challenges with oral, pharyngeal, feeding, swallowing, phonatory, and respiratory coordination. Effective intervention programming goes far beyond isolated oral motor skills.

• Postural alignment and trunk stability as the foundation for breathing, swallowing, and voice
• Integration of respiration, phonation, and feeding rather than treating each system in isolation
• Functional practice during meaningful activities (feeding, play, communication)
• Attention to sensory factors that influence safety, efficiency, and endurance
• Collaboration within an interdisciplinary team to support growth, nutrition, and airway protection
